Trying to use a re-filled ink cartridge HPf4280

This model HP printer may only let you use genuine Canon/Epson printer cartridges. If you try to refill these ink cartridges it will not work because the HP cartridges have an embedded chip in the cartridge that detects the empty cartridge even though it has been refilled.

I would recommend removing the cartridge from the printer and wiping down the contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer with a piece of kitchen tissue.

If the cartridge is still not recognised, it is most likely to be a problem with the cartridge. Try replacing the ink cartridge.

Some printer software that detect ink levels won't recognize a cartridge that's been refilled. They treat the cartridge as empty although you've filled them with ink. You can try removing the HP software that pertains to the printing functions only (not the scanner abilities). You can also do a Power reset. Remove the printer cartridges, turn off the power, remove both the Power cord and USB cord (if applicable) for 10 minutes. After reconnecting the USB and power cords, install the cartridges as you normally would. The printer should treat them as new.

Try running the print head alignment feature through the computer. (Click Start - Control Panel - Printers and Faxes - RIGHT CLICK HPF4280 - select printing preferences - select maintenance - select cartridge alignment and follow the on screen instructions) This can also be caused by solid pieces of ink stuck inside the print head disrupting the flow. if it a genuine HP cartridge contact HP for a replacement. Try using the new black color in the combo pack. If the problem persist- you might have bought an expired cartidge.

hello, attempt to clean the sensors on the bottom of the cartridge with some kind of solvent and q-tip. If the ink cartridge has sat awhile before you refilling it then the jets will be clogged dry and you will need to purchase a new one for your printer.

keep the cartidge in Hot Water for 30 minutes. maybe it works.

The ink level indicator is only an estimate to give you an idea when it's time to buy a new cartridge. You cannot reset the ink level indicator so simply ignore it if you refill your cartridges. See pg 72 of the user manual which you can get here: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01374711.pdf
