My cable input has disappeared. All I have are HDMI, AV, and PC inputs. And the entire selection in the menu for channels is gone including auto channel scan.

The menu button does not work!!

  • Anonymous Nov 19, 2011

The volume has to be set at 0 and you have to use the buttons on the tv not the remote. And you also have to hold the menu and channel up button at the same time.

            Well Even mine BROKE AGAIN.
It Has something to do with the REMOTE!!
Below are some successes with the remote noted but I have not found an exact "this always works solution" Yet Also I think the software updates through the AIR some how I can't prove it yet without a decompiler but the size of the firmware check sum HAS CHANGED over the years. How can that occur ????? You would think the MFG would release a workable solution by now. Geezzz very rude of them.
It lock up mostly for me when I try to hook up my Mac via HDMI it has not happened again since I stopped hooking it up that way and it will lock up when the computer goes to sleep but the screen saver mode is ok.
The last time I took the whole unit apart drained every cap of power reseated every chip. Re soldered and re-flowed every connection I could get access to. It still was broke. Then I left it off for 6 months UNPLUGED and it still was dead.
I finally was messing with the Remote and took it apart and the volume was Stuck and a few other buttons and then I changed the batteries and then I could factory reset it through the front panel and the the remote together. It has worked for the 8 months or so and I have only used over the Air HD TV. I gave up on it for a multi use Screen like the MFG brags about.
When I can't reset this next time I am going to shoot a you tube video of me shooting it!!! With a 50 Cal at 800 yards with stick on bang targets!! DON"T BUY THIS TV FOR EVEN 10 BUCKS AT A YARD SALE IT IS A POS!!!!!

I also have this problem. Also, if I switch the input to PC or HDMI, it will no longer allow me to go back to AV.
AV itself doesn't quite work. When I turn on a peripheral, the TV seems to register the machine, but doesn't properly display it. For instance, if I turn on a game system, the screen switches from "No Signal" to grey. Another interesting thing is that when powered on, the intro screen that is usually blue displays as grey.
I'm chalking it up to a software issue, so my solution would be to find a way to reset it to factory settings, but I can't find any way to do so in the manual or online.

My lcd sharp lc37AW5X does not do the searching for channels either auto or manual. the options on setup menu can not be highlighted.

Check the selected input mode. If the input mode is external, that is, whether it be HDMI, AV etc:-; the tuning set-up menu will not appear. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/

How do I get to my HDMI channel?

If you have the remote for the television you can select the input channels by locating the "Source" or "Input" button. You'll then be able to select HDMI, VGA, TV, etc.

If you're lacking the remote the television itself should also have an Input/Source button in which you can then use to select HDMI.

Note: If using the television buttons pressing the Input/Source should cycle through the available selections, if not you may need to press this button ONCE and then cycle through your choices using Volume or Channel buttons. Once highlighted for a few seconds it should automatically select the desired channel - if not you will need to press your Input/Source button again to confirm your selection.

Televison station won't scan

If you are receiving a "No Signal" error message, verify that:
  1. All of the cables physically connected to the TV and the input device are secure.
  2. The input device is turned on.
Your TV needs to scan for channels before it can show programming from an antenna, from cable TV when the cable comes directly from the wall (no cable box), or from a cable or satellite box connected to the TV with a coaxial (RF) cable. Do not scan for channels if you have a cable or satellite box connected using AV (Composite), Component, or HDMI cables. The box selects the channel, not the tuner inside your television. If you are not using the "TV" input, press the INPUT button on your remote until the correct input mode is selected.
To perform a channel scan using the coaxial input:
  1. Press the INPUT button on your remote to view your current input source. The TV (coaxial cable) input must be selected. This may appear as "TV," "ANT," or the channel and call letters of a station.
  2. If the TV input is not selected, press INPUT until the TV input mode is selected.
  3. Open the on-screen menu and select TV or Tuner option. (This varies by model.)
  4. Highlight Tuner Mode and select the correct option:
    • Antenna-over-the air signals from an antenna
    • Cable-direct from the wall cable TV, or a cable or satellite box connected to the TV with coaxial cable
  5. Select Auto Search or Auto Channel Scan. (This varies by model.)
  6. When the search reaches 100% complete, exit to the menu.
  7. Check the available channels:
    • Antenna or direct-from-wall cable-Press the Channel Up and Channel Down buttons on your VIZIO TV remote to view the available channels.
    • Cable or satellite box- Will return only one channel. Use the cable or satellite remote's Channel Up and Channel Down buttons.
If this does not resolve the issue, power cycle the TV and then re-run the channel scan:
  1. Turn off the TV.
  2. Unplug the TV from the electrical outlet.
  3. While the TV is unplugged from the wall, press and hold the Power button on the TV for 30 seconds.
  4. Release the power button.
  5. Plug the TV back into the electrical outlet.
  6. Turn on the TV.
Note: There is also an option to reset the TV to the factory default settings. This option is in either the SETUP or SYSTEM section of the on-screen menu. The option may be "Reset all settings", "System Reset," or "Reset & Admin." Consult your TV's user manual for the location and steps for resetting your model.
  1. Remove the coaxial cable from the DTV/TV connector on the back of your television and perform a channel scan to clear the existing channels. See the procedure above. This should not find any channels.
  2. Re-attach the coaxial cable to the DTV/TV connector and perform a new channel scan.
This video shows troubleshooting steps to use when a "No signal" message appears.

Bush hdmi

Look in the menu for set up. select antenna or cable .Be sure antenna or cable is connected to rf input/ select auto scan . Now if you are using a cable or sat box you do not need to bother with this. Just select the input from the input or Source menu. If you are connecting the box to your rf in then select channel 3 or 4.

How do i connect a playstation 3 to a philips tv

The PlayStation 3 (PS3) is a high-definition gaming console that supports both standard AV connections and high-resolution connections (such as HDMI). Most of the older Philips TVs come with a standard AV input. Newer, flat-panel Philips TVs include standard AV inputs and high-resolution inputs. To get the best video quality out of your PS3, using an HDMI connection is recommended if the option is available. The PS3 does not include an HDMI cable, only a standard AV cable

Standard AV
  • 1 Turn off the PS3.
  • 2 Connect the flat end of the PS3 AV cable into the "AV Multi Out" port on the back of the PS3.
  • 3 Connect the "red," "white" and "yellow" prongs on the opposite end of the PS3 AV cable into the corresponding "red," "white" and "yellow" AV inputs on the TV (usually located on the side or in the back).
  • 4 Press the "Source" button on the Philips TV remote.
  • 5 Select the "AV" video display mode.
  • 6 Turn on the PS3. The PS3 logo will appear on the screen.
  • HDMI Connection

Can't get HD channels selected on tv. Tried auto search with HDTV port connected and the menu selected to HDTV

Hello, the HDTV input is what you would use if you were not using a cable box.
You should connect your cable from the wall to coaxial input on the cable box, and connect an hdmi cable from the hdmi output on the cable box to the hdmi 1 input on your tv and then switch the tv to that input.

My 42LG30 is out of warranty and has a broken antenna/cable input jack; can it be replaced/repaired? humble1

You will need to have the tuner unit replaced or have the entire main board replaced. If you have a digital box or sky box then you could simply connect up with a scart or hdmi cable to the AV or HDMI inputs, this would mean you don't need to use your antenna connection & you can then select the channels from the box.
