How to replace the electrolytic capacitors on the

My AVR 120 receiver is also shutting off and I have read the one member replaced his electrolytic capacitors on the surround amp board. I've opened up my receiver, but I am wanting to know how to replace those electrolytic capacitors? Thanks!

Why does everybody want to start with surgery instead of triage? Perhaps it would be better to diagnose the problem instead of just imitating what might have worked for someone else. You could end up making it worse or wasting time and money. Under what conditions does it shut itself off? Does it give an indication why? Have you referred to the manual under Troubleshooting? Was it subjected to stress just prior to this starting? Disconnect the speakers. Try again.

The unit shuts off about 60 seconds after it's turned on at any time during the day, so it's cool, not overheated. There is no indication as far as a code or something across the panel. I have disconnected the speakers, but to no avail, the problem persist. It used to shut off randomly after a couple of hours of use, but has gotten progressively worse, shutting off every 60 seconds.

I had read another member with the same issue who had unplugged the connections from the surround amp board from the main amp board which then stopped the unit from switching off. This is the same result I have achieved, but when I plug the surround board back into the main board, the problem persist. This is why I thought I would continue to try his solution of replacing the 15 Electrolytic Capacitors.

Thanks for your reply and any assistance is greatly appreciated.

If the caps are thru hole rather than surface mounted it should be easy for you.
Make sure cap is properly discharged>>caps are kind of like the 9volt batteries>>> a positive lead and a negitive lead...you need soldering skills.
get some >>solder wick and a soldering iron and some solder... heat up contact point with iron while wick is between iron and lead of cap....wick will soak up the solder.........

Our denon receiver keeps going off-

replace all the electrolytic capacitors in the power supply. i had the exact same problem with mine and once i replaced the capacitors it powered up and stayed on and worked perfect.
these capacitors tend to fail as they're of poor quality.
this fault is very common on denon receivers, especially the later models.

hope this helps?

Shuts right off

Do you get an indication on the display where the point of failure might be? It would show up on the LCD speaker diagrams just before shutting off. If not, then you will need to replace capacitor.

Cobra 148gtl

i am having this trouble as well. The ics was my thought too, but I think it is in the modulation circuit somewhere. another article i read said to check this. "Look for the collector of TR-23, you should read about 4.5 V with a dead key. If you find that this voltage is not present, check on the opposite side of R-120 for 6.5V. Most likely this voltage will not be present; if this is the case, C18 has shorted and needs to be replaced. This is a 330uf, 10V electrolytic capacitor beside L31. To prevent "future" problems, replace with a 16V unit." As of yet, i havent gotten that far. note this is from the cobra 2000, but they are very much alike. you might cross check the resistor capacitor numbers though. btw, isnt the mb3756 the pll ic?
