The buttons that select cubed ice, crushed ice, or water no longer function. The fridge is stuck in the cubed ice mode. All other buttons on the panel work fine (light, lock, door alarm, filter reset). When the lock feature is enabled, the crushed ice and water buttons cause the alarm to beep.

If you look at the bottom out side area of the ice cube bucket/auger assembly, you will see a metal rod going front to back. That is the shift rod for cubes/crushed ice. Make sure it is free. Then look at the back of the refrigerator where the end of that rod goes into a square hole. There is a magnetic solenoid in that hole that shifts the rod for selection. The solenoid coil is either bad, unplugged, or for some reason stuck and not shifting that rod. That's where the problems is located.
check to see if you ice bin has full size ice cube in it... if there is then you dispense is stuck in the crush mode check to see if there is something keep the crushing wheels from releasing... other than that it could be the control on the door..hope this helps
the reason for this problem is a jam of ice inside the ice bin that will not let the knives that crush the cubes, and cant release to let cubes go by uncrushed, remove the ice bin,put the remaining cubes in a bucket,or toss, then check the ice auger in the bin and if theres a build-up of ice melt it with hot water, then thoroughly dry it,then replace this unit into the freezer, but do not use it until its cold again from melting the ice jam, then resume the ice making cycle
it sounds like the mechanizme is jamed, (if it has one) remove the ice tray bucket and where the metal rod sticks out the back of the bucket see that where it goes into the fridge is not frosted up, hold the freezer door light button in and activate the ice dispenser watch to see if a solinoid activates a latch if it does not move free it up so that it can move freely up and down... (if this is your model)
is it push button or do you manually have to turn dial from crush to cube. I have push button and had this problem once before.(LG side by side) I turned off at power (remove cord from wall) and removed ice tray all together. save some ice for testing. Check to see if crush part was clean. Put ice back in container and put back together and turn back on at power point. See if you can have cubed now.
Sounds tome that there is a short in the dispenser control circuit, keyboard or Control Board. If you had the model number I could help you better than this. I possibly would be able to walk you through this, Let me know, Sea Breeze
Check the bar below the icemaker bin. There is a gold color metal bar that goes from the front of the bin to the back and goes into a lever at the back of the freezer. If the bar gets on the wrong side of the lever it will be stuck in crushed mode.
We had thought this was a free service...??? Yes, we fixed it ourselves, after trial and error. We pulled out the ice bin and there is an arm that is moves back and forth beside it. It had frozen up. That is the ice crusher. Thaw it out and it is fixed. By the way, the above posting was not by us--ours stated that our ice crusher did not crush ice anymore. Instead, cubes came out...
