Vintage unlisted model Milwaukee drill with frozen chuck.

on the bench drill ( drill stand ) if you see a long slot in the shafts when you pull the drill down all the way , the you will need a tapered bit of metal that fits in that slot
Drive the metal through so that it forces the chuck assembly out of the morse taper
You can get replacement units from any good tool shop

My M18 cordless drill overheated and smoke came pouring out

Yes this does have brushes, they are mounted on plastic plate that has to be soldered onto the switch. That noise might be the vanes that have broken off the main rotor. If you open it up you will be able to see. Yes they can be repaired but check with the milwaukee agent for cost. Some times it is more cost effective to buy a body only. Brush card is cheap about nine pound inc vat.

Milwaukee cordless drill stays on constantly with battery engaged

Sounds like your switch has burnt out. Will not shut the power off.
Not sure if you can pull the switch out after you push it in.

Looking for repair manual for Dewalt DW87 cordless drill

Go to Dewaltservicenet.com and type in your model number in the middle of the page at the bottom. From there you should be able to download a schematic and some of the parts are component parts and don't have a lot of replacement items. It sounds like you broke the clutch or gearcase and both are components.
