The drum light coming on should not stop you from printing. If the toner light is on it can stop you from printing.

Clean the drum chamber and the high voltage grid on the drum. Take it outside and use some compressed air on it. Regular cleanings work wonders on laser printers. Make sure you clean the laser window on the top of the drum chamber with a dry cloth.

Note also. You can easily test if it is a "replace drum error" by opening the door and pressing the go button until all the lights are on. That will reset the counter. If you're still unable to print then there is a more serious fault. The replace drum indication should not cause the machine to stop printing.

Replace the drum, if you have already and the light still comes on it is a common problem with these. I have 6 of them I deal with across two office buildings. There is a pile of 4 of them now we moved to a different model. I just don't want you to waste time/money on a goose chase.

Blue light flashing light, red light on

The flashing means that the toner and/or the imaging drum is empty or missing (printing halts on these errors). Lights on steady means low toner.

Orange light is flashing and printer is not printing. It is not the crescent , not the triangle, but the one abve the triangle and below the colored catridge rotation button.

Imaging drum LED stays on continuously

When the Imaging Drum LED stays solid on, it means your imaging drum is running low and will soon need to be replaced. You can unseat, then reseat it and see if that solves the problem.

If everything is printing fine, don't do anything until the LED starts flashing. HP will tell you to replace the drum immediately, but mine was on for a year, with moderate printing, before going to the flashing, "empty" state. This is the same advice as for toner cartridges, which are sometimes as much as 50% full when the light comes on.

However, I suggest sourcing a new drum so you can be prepared for when the existing one goes out. Also, despite HP's warnings of gloom and doom, aftermarket products work acceptably.

Drum light flashing

Try resetting the drum counter:

open the front cover, press the blue button and keep it pressed until all the LEDs are lit - hold for a few seconds and then close the front cover.

All lights are flashing not printing

Might have a paper jam in area of toner and drum cartridge that may need to be removed. Typically this will solve the issue.

Dell printer 1700

First unplug power cord and plug back after 10 mins.
If problem persists, then it is probably a toner error, if the toner is nearly finished. In this case you will see the led flashing only when is printing. Sooner or later the printer will start printing blank or faded pages and you will need to change toner
When is not toner, with same symptoms as above, it can be drum error, in this case printer will keep printing but shows flashing light, at a certain point you will need to change drum kit.

If light flashes and printer does not print, then it is either paper jam inside, or one of errors above at final stage, or one of the door not well closed (check them all), or printer faulty (fuser, heads mechanics etc.), in this last case call service.
