I had exactly the same problem, very annoying. The camera does not need a new tube, transformer or flash board, it only thinks that you are in the wrong mode and won't let you turn on the flash. Do the following to avoid the problem:
1. Touch "menu" then under the "rec mode" change from Burst to NORMAL. 2. Touch the flash icon and now it will be possible to turn the flash on...
I have the same problems need advice. How do you get the flash to turn on? When I hit it it does nothing, it show that it is off, How can I fix this. I need it for real estate homes.

so meaning to say u must upgrade your flash player. maybe it is old version so u have to upgrade it.search for this site www.adobe.com and click product and on hte right bottom corner click flasp player and upgrade.
the hand sign means that with your current settings, the camera predicts that you will not be able to hold it still long enough, your flash might be in a mode where it does not flash or not very brightly, look in your manual for flash settings, then max the flash out on your camera
if its accesible than ur problem might be easy...check if u putt ur files hidden by hitting ctrl + a...if a msg apper thats it..go folder option and chek the show hidden files..if a msg dont appear try recovery prorames or try file transfer wizar
Simple, check the sms is in text....
if it is in then flash the set problem will be solved.
if in 2nd boot error shows then change flash if 3rd then change power
also have a problem perhaps mobile is not recogonizing the sim card...
