My bearings went out out on our neptune. The repairman who looked at it told me the labor in replacing them was very expensive and recommended that I replace the machine.

It is a complete tear down to replace the main tub bearing. The bearing comes pressed in the rear shell, oversized shipping on part. If the inner basket spindle is froze or badly pitted or groved it is another expensive part, The repair is about two or three hours depending on how easy things come apart and how much working room there is if it is done in your house. So yes it is expensive to repair, and not a easy decision,
good luck

I have a Maytag Neptune Gas Dryer Model MDG9700AWW that has a cracked drum and I was told by Maytag that the drum is no longer under warranty. But told by a Home Depot Associate that the drum is typically...

Not sure if this applies to you, but I do remember back in January 2006 was the date that a large amount of the appliance manufacturers reduced the period of time that their appliances were covered by the manufacture, changes affacted nearly all types of major appliances.
Most went to a all inclusive 1 year parts and labor warranty and you the consumer would be responsible for all failures and labor after the 1 year period which started from the date of purchase. You may have made your purchase smack dab in the middle of the transition period and then details would probably be determined by way of manufactured date.
Good luck !

My Neptune 5500BWW goes cycles but no spin?

Sounds to me like your repairman should be able to make short work on this. I may be mistaken but I would almost bet that your problem lies in a broken belt or a worn pulley. Most competent repair guys should be able to fix that within a couple of hours.

Other problems it could be are sticking pullies, a drum that is sticking, or a bad motor. Any of which should be easily fixable and cheaper than buying a new machine.

Neptune washer bearing problem Tony tool seems to over simplify

I rented the tool and it worked fine. The replacement steel washer had an extra rubber insert that took me a few assemble/test/disassemble cycles to find. That cost me time and the $90 late surcharge on the rental. All told though, it went as described online and in the dvd that came with the rental. Just see that the replacement parts fully match what you are replacing.

My question is whether someone else has done this and had the new bearings last more than a couple months. Two and a half months in, the washer is winding up as when the first bearings went bad. This is not a good sign, and I question the quality of the bearings.

Any feedback?

Fabric seal on Maytag Neptune dryer coming out.

Give this site a try. Some guy on the forum had the Neptune issue and found a replacement seal. There are some how-to videos on YouTube(may not be your specific dryer, but same idea.) I'll let you have the joy of looking on YT.

1998 Neptune Washer

I agree with his diagnosis. The rear bearings have gone bad and will eventually either seize or start ripping through the outter tub. It is expensive to replace. However It is worth replacing. You will spend a similar amount of money or more on a new machine. The guy you called probably doesn't want to do the job and just said buy a new one. Also whirlpools and maytags at this point are one in the same about 1 year ago maybe alittle more whirlpool bought maytag so you will see more washers that look like whirlpools with a maytag name on it

Spin Cycle

Yes its true the main support bearing is part of the outer tub and is factory set .Dry bearing will roar until it develops a leak and eventually starts a main pulley shake that will cut through the back of the outer tubs shell. The outer tub costs about $175.00(varies)the labor (please sit down)yes, is high enough for you to go out and find your self a 15 year old Maytag top load, re-build it,scrap the front load, and never see a repairman for the next 15 Years. No joke!                             I/m happy to help you with anything you need a answer to.............Sorry about your Maytag    :(

Maytag Neptune Front Load Washer

No, I'll tell you before forking out $ $ for some bad news. The noise is your bearing. You have to replace the outer tub .Its not going to be repaired any other way.The idiots who designed this washer made this a non servicable bearing. The labor is high not to mention the outer tub is also.REPLACE THE OUTER TUB.
