How to get rid of a double screen

Is your tv from 4 years ago? if so there was a rash of tv's having double screens lasting 10-15 minutes. Unfortunately it might be out of warranty. but if it's a newer model, check with samsung (a painful experience) but necessary to get some sort of refund.

I've had my Toshiba 46RV530U less than 2 years,

Diana, did you ever find a solution? My Toshiba (same model) is about 2 years old and it started getting these 4 horizontal lines spaced pretty far apart and a double image at bottom. When I lightly tap the top of the TV, they went away. But now that is not working. Please let me know. Thanks.

Double image shows in red

it is quite fixable and usually in your home; it is called convergence--kp57wv500 uses two STK 392-560 convergence Ic chips; both and any bad fuses or resistors around them need to be replaced and the set adjusted after.

I fix a lot of these sets in my area---if you call a shop you will pay 300-400----a lot of independent people will do it for under 250 in your home--shop around--now is the slow time of the year for tv shops---you could buy both IC chips on ebay for less then 13 dollars plus shipping---this is a normal problem in all projection tv sets--the chips have a white grease on the back of them designed to transfer heat--after several years it drys out and one of them goes bad---repair should take about an hour or so in your home---you should ask yourself if 200-300 dollar repair is worth while, could you replace the set for this? If the chips are replaced and the set adjusted they should be good for 4 or 5 years at the least.

Blue wave across screen

Just click below for convergence repair kit;

http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/

Double images and colors are blurry .Blue,red and yellow wave coming up from the bottom of the screen on the lower left symptom is for busted convergence IC,you must replaced this IC in order that will works better again.STK 392-xxx ICs and it's associated resistor,this resistor automatically change value,can caused truoble even though you change the ICs.If you bring this to a service center they cost you $600 to $700,but if you buy the repair kit you can save more,don't wory it is very easy because there is intallation guide including in the repair kit. Feel free to ask whatever the result... click the link for sample picture guide step by step installation;

Hope this may help;

This sounds like your convergence correction amplifiers have malfunctioned. These Integrated Circuits often burn out after a few years (STK392-110) they can be replaced with a higher version (STK392-150) However it is important to have the biasing circuitry checked to make sure nothing has burnt out as a result of the ICs malfunctioning. If you have a background in electronics you can repair this problem with very little effort, however if you do not have a background in electronics, I would suggest that you have your TV serviced by a qualified TV technician.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,
