E F51 code indicates a problem with the RPS (Rotational Speed Sensor) that monitors the motor speed. This issue has been identified as relating to the the connection system between the RPS and the controller.

Whirlpool has changed the RPS connector design, providing a more reliable connection and is available as a service kit. The control has also been updated for better sensing of the RPS. Also, if you have experienced problems with certain wash loads getting tangled and knotted, there is also an update washplate intended to reduce this issue. You should contact Whirlpool for possible repair concessions related to these issues.

If you would like to get to the RPS and try cleaning it.. Here's how:

In some cases, the F51 code can be fixed by cleaning the RPS connector. The RPS is located on the motor armature underneath the machine.
1. Tilt the machine backwards, resting the console against the wall.
2. using a disposer tool or suitable hex wrench loosen the center stator screw completely (the screw is captive and will not fall out of hole).
3. The stator contains a series of strong magnets and will take some tugging and wiggling to pull off.
4. Remove the 4 bolts that secure the armature to the tub. CAREFUL this assembly is a little heavy, support well before removing last bolt.
5. The RPS is attached to the armature. Remove and insert RPS connector (the one with 6 wires) 10 times to 'wipe' the contacts providing a cleaning action.

SOURCE: f51 code

The F51 error code indicates that the control is not sensing proper motor movement through the signals from the RPS (rotor position sensor) circuit. This can be caused by several different problems. Make sure that you are not overloading the washer. Overloading can cause this problem. A toy or foreign object could be under the washer that is interfering with motor rotation. With the washer empty, spin the basket inside the washer tub to see if it spins relatively easily. If not, you could an item caught between the spin basket and the tub. You could have a wire harness problem causing signals to not be transmitted properly between the RPS and the machine control board. A failed RPS sensor or a failed control board could also cause this problem.

What does an error code F51 on a whirlpool cabrio washer mean?

Cabrio F51 Fault (Stored Fault Code F51) The Cabrio's F51 fault code flashes on the washing machine's display when there is a motor rotor position sensor (RPS) failure.
Check for good contact at the control Board and at the RPS. Sometimes disconnecting and reconnecting the RPS plug connection several times will clean off corrosion that may be affecting the contacts.

What is f51

On some machines the F51 is a slow or long drain error. Possibly a clogged filter in the drain pump or a bad pump. You did not provide enough information for me to offer any more help. I do not know the washer type, manufacturer, age, or model.

What does F 51 mean?

The F51 fault code on your Cabrio washer indicates that the control board is not sensing the proper drive motor spin. To clear the fault code, press the Pause/Cancel button.

Make sure that the drain hose is not stuck way down the stand pipe. This can cause siphoning of fill water which will inhibit proper motor rotation.

Check to see if the wash basket spins freely. If it does not, you may have an item of clothing stuck between the outer tub and the inner basket. This restriction in rotation will also cause an F51 fault code.

If these tips do not help you resolve the F51 problem, then you probably have a component failure. Possible failures include: wire harness or wire connection problem between the machine control and the RPS sensor (Rotor Position Sensor), a failed RPS sensor, a failed drive motor, and a failed machine control board.
