In most cases, it can happen accidentally. You may have modified certain display settings unknowingly. Windows 10 users are aware of the two built-in display modes - Desktop and Tablet. So, there's a chance you've switched to Tablet mode, causing the Windows 10 desktop icons to disappear. In certain cases, you notice the Windows 10 desktop icons missing when you get back to the desktop after spending hours on certain applications and programs. Here's a fix for desktop icons missing on Windows 10 or 8: How to Restore Missing Desktop Icons in Windows 10

The missing desktop icons can be displayed again by right-clicking the computer desktop and selecting View > Show Desktop Icons. They should appear immediately after making the change in the menu. A checkmark should be visible after selecting the entry.

Lenovo ThinkCentre M52 Displays limited tray icons on startup.

I was going to say get to a the task manager by CTRL+ALT+DEL and in the upper left hand corner of the window click File then new task (RUN). Type in explorer.exe and hit ok. This normally brings back your task bar, start menu and desktop icons.

If you can't run it, then you definitely have a virus blocking it. Run a virus scan.

Laptop comes on but doesn't displayed any Icons

Go start/programs, open till you get the program (there may be many parts but what you want should have the familiar icon you were accustomed to) click and hold on the program and drag it to the desktop or and this is my favorite way, do the above but right click on the program then in the "right click menu" slide across to "send to" then in it choose "desktop (create shortcut)". Sometimes its better to do this than worrying where the missing icons went. Hope this is of some help, John

I'm trying to hook up my pc to my tv ( it's hooked up right, & my screen saver picture is on the tv screen, but not the desktop icons, & I can't get anything else on, I pressed tne Fn & F5 key...

If you see something coming from your PC on your TV, you're almost there!

When you hook up a monitor to your laptop, there's two ways it can work. It can show the same image on both displays, or can "Extend" the desktop on to both screens. In the extend mode, you can have different things on each screen.

Here's what you do to see which mode its in:
- On an empty spot on the desktop, right-click.
- In the menu that comes up, choose Display Properties, or Screen resolution.
- This will bring up the Display properties.

Here's where you need to look to get it configured properly.

You most likely will see two boxes in one area. One will have a number one, the other a number two. If number two is one the right of number one, this means that your display is being extended to the right of the number one monitor. You can verify this by moving your mouse PAST the right edge of the screen. When it goes past, it should show up on the other screen.

Image not displaying properly

Before assuming it's the monitor, try it on another display card.

It is possible that there is a problem in the configuration of the display card, or a defect in the display card.

Is there a computer service place, or a monitor sevice center near to where you live. You can then take the monitor to have it properly checked for you.
