I have office2003 , when I want make it install , it request me Pro11.msi

  • gary969 Jan 10, 2009

The foregoing are the Specifics of my problem; and I don't know what else to add to it!!!
I have the problem of trying to update my Office 2003 with the recent recommended Windows Update updates "SP3" Office 2003 Service Pack 3 from the automatic Windows Update online service and it repeatedly stops the installation procedure and notifies me that PRO11.msi is missing which I never messed around with to my knowledge!!!  and I can't find this file ANYWHERE in my computer even in the protected hidden system files.  But why has this situation sprung up recently all of a sudden????  And why can't this file, PRO11.msi, be downloaded off the internet????  Here's the Update results:

UPDATES COULD NOT BE INSTALLED KB890830
    Office 2003 Service Pack 3 (SP3)
Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter (KB958620)
    Update for Office 2003 (KB907417)

This is extremely frustrating and exhausting!

while asking my excel file it asking the pro11.msi file is missing

  • risbrocky Feb 02, 2009

My next question is, Where I can download the PRO11.MSI

  • Anonymous Mar 16, 2009

Same here! Cannot update with Service Pack 3, because of a missing PRO11.msi.

I 've read in a very useful article that if you place the Office cd in your drive, then the computer restores the file by itself.

Unfortunately, I do not have the cd.. Nobody gave me one when I bought my laptop.. :hmmm

Sorry if my english are bad! :)

Go to start menu, run, then type 'excel' and hit enter, the installation menu will start but you can just cancel it. To me, the installation will start again and again but I cancel it as Book 1 excel already opens. Then you can double-click any excel file that you want and open it. It worked for me! :)

This usually happens with MS office 2003.

there is an alternative for the missing file though, if you remember the directory to which youve installed your msoffice 2003, got to that directory and you'll find PRO11.MSI there.

The problem for me was that the original Office 2003 CD had a different PRO MSI to the latest one I was trying to install. That's why I couldn't just overwrite with the Office CD I had.
My solution is risky but it worked for me.I downloaded Revo Uninstaller(free) and got it to get rid of all remnants of the file(even in the registry).I then waited to see if I'd made a massive mistake and deleted too much.
The PC booted up fine and when I tried my legit install of Office 2003 it actually worked because all remnants of the old install had gone!!!

I have spent 4 days solid trying to finad a solution to this and this one worked for me.

Hello,

Thank you for using fixya. I am very glad to answer your concern.

It seems that there are some missing components for your ms office 2003 pro. What can do is to insert the MS office CD 2003. And just let it run and it will load up all the necessary files needed for your computer to do some tasks.

It should be the MS office 2003 Pro installation cd.

Thank you for trusting fixya,

Have a nice day ahead.

I m trying to export the contacts from outlook to excel it is showing error of proo11.msi file

The .msi file contains important settings for MS Office and either the file is corrupt or missing, or there is a problem with your registry or even a hard drive failure.
Long story short: you have to reinstall the file from you original installation CD (in other words: you can not mix "Standard" and "Professional".)

MS has an article about this problem and describes also solutions to it. You find the article here.

Can not open email attachment

The MSI file it is asking for is an additional feature from your Microsoft Office software disk.
You will have to find a copy of that version of office to be able to install it.

What is the extension on the email attachment file? You might be able to use a different program to open it.
