One of 3 possible problems, the control is faulty, you can bypass this with a jumper wire and see if it stays running, the condenser coil is dirty and is not cooling the compressor correctly and the condenser and evaporator coils need to be cleaned,i would do this first before bypassing the control, then possibly its low on refrigerant and the low pressure switch is shutting it down or the switch itself is faulty, please rate this if it helped you, thank you

I took mine apart to see if there was anything obviously wrong before I came to the internet for help. I saw this that the control could be faulty, so I unplugged that, and it runs. I assume it will just run continuously until I put a new one in??

I posted my problem/fix but not sure where it ended up. I am pretty sure it is the on/off switch as I moved the wires to the #1 and #3 poles and now it runs constantly. I have to have it running because the water heater blew out its tank indicator and flooded the basement with 300 gals of water. After sumping/dry-vac'ing, I need the dehumidifier to work! And it does. It has run great for the past 36 hours. In the Spring I will install a new 50k switch.

My ebac will freeze up unless I turn it down to a low setting. What could be wrong? I have cd 30

Just adding this as I found a basic design fault with my CD30... basically the defrost function runs after about 50 mins of operation, but what was happening was the unit was cutting off (because it had lowered the humidity to the set level) before the 50 mins had elapsed. The unit would then start again (with the coils still iced up) but never run for the 50 minutes needed to activate the defrost.. so a massive iceberg ended up building on the back of the unit!

I modified the wiring of the unit so that the timer board is always powered, and the humidistat switches the neutrals of the compressor, fan and solenoid. This has totally cured the problem. Any decent electrician would be able to do this mod in a few minutes.

I think the defrost circuit design has changed on newer models (probably because it was rubbish!!)

It runs 5 to 10 minutes, then it stops. When I press the remote control boton, it works again for 5 to 10 minutes and then it stops. So I need to repress the remote control again to make it starts.

I guess you are having a problem. That model dehumidifier doesn't have a remote control. As a matter of fact, I'm not aware of any model dehumidifier that has a remote control. A remote would be useless. Now, some portable air conditioners have remote controls. Is that what you have? A portable A/C unit? Please advise. Thanks.

How do i check if its working correctly

If you want to give it the ultimate in-home test. Put the dehumidifier in the bathroom with the door closed and a hot shower running, but do not turn on the bathroom exhaust fan. Set the dehumidifier's controls as low as possible and let it run for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, return to the bathroom, turn the shower OFF and check the water collection bucket for water. The unit will probably be running anyway, when you return to the bathroom.

Remember, the lower the setting, the more the unit will run and collect water. Until it either reaches the humidity level you have it set for or the bucket is full and the unit automatically turns OFF

That's the best way to test a dehumidifier at home. Hope it helps you.
Please let me know.

My Santa Fe compact dehumidifier in my crawlspace makes a noise (not a smooth humming sound but more of a harsh vibrating sound) when it is not dehumidifying. I can turn the knob to the dryest setting and...

The black cylinder is the compressor. It sounds like your unit is cycling the compressor for some reason. If the compressor starts, runs fine, and removes water when you set the humidity control to the driest setting the compressor is probably OK and the problem may be with the humidity control causing the dehumidifier to "short cycle" for some reason. You may need to change the humidity control or relocate the dehumidifier in your crawl space.
If the compressor attempts to start, and then sits quiet for 10 minutes, and then attempts to start again, you have a problem with the dehumidifier. There are a few things that can cause this problem:
Low refrigerant charge
Bad compressor capacitor
Bad compressor overload
Plugged capillary tube or broken expansion valve
are the common causes of this behavior. If you suspect one of these problems, call the factory service department at 1-800-533-7533 for help.

Good luck with your dehumidiifer.

Zenith ZD30 dehumidifier - 1 1/2 years old stopped working had a half bucket oc colledted water in bucket when it stopped. I checked the fuse on the circuit board and have continuity.

Unplug from wall. Take the front cover off and disconnect the 2 wires that attach to the humidity control dial. Plug back in. If it works, the problem is the humidty control dial (mine just went bad). With it unhooked, it will run constantly, but will still turn off when the bucket is full. To turn off, simply unplug.

Signs of a bad compressor or condenser

plug this unit into a receptacle with a lamp also in the recept. unit will try to start the lamp will dim for a couple seconds and go back bright unit wont start maybe fan but no comp. sit and watch a few minutes later lamp will go dim again then back to bright, this is a classic low tech way of confirming the comp is trying but not working possible bad run capacitor, much cheaper than new unit

Compressor won't run

the over-current relay is tripping out the compressor motor to prevent excessive current through motor windings. To prove this theory, open unit, find motor wires, disconnect wires from unit, and apply 120VAC to motor using external circuit-breaker source. Run 2 minutes max. If motor continuously turns, then relay is failing. Find it by tracing wires back to source and finding a small rectangular item. If motor again quits after 2 seconds, then this motor has an internal over-current self-resetting fuse that may be doing its job of preventing an electrical overload from a dead (shorted) motor.

Runs for a couple of minutes and then stops

Try cleaning out the air filter using cold water. I did not even know the unit had one until I had the same problem. Pull out the bucket. The filter is located where the front top edge of the bucket would be located if it were in the instrument. Remove it by pulling straight down. It may be taped to the instrument for shipping purposes. According to the manual, this should be done every month. I have had the machine since Katrina and this is the first time I have had a problem. Hope this helps.
