Very noisy when spinning - suspect bearing problem. Would appreciate advice on bearing replacement. Model no. WF 240

the bearings will not explode but will collapse and allow water into the gear box
if you can still get the parts, get a quote to repair from a washing machine technician and compare with the price of a new machine
Remember new machines have a warranty period and generally use less power and water

You can have the bearings replaced for about $100. It is something that you will have done by a professional. Consult with a local pool store and they should be able to direct you to someone that does that.

Hello, this is a symptom of drum bearing wear, and what you need do is to check the wear to see if the inner drum moves up and down relative to the fixed outer drum. It should only moves a minutes amount. If it moves more than a millimeter or two, that means it is probably worn bearings and you will need to replace it.

You suspect right.
It is a complete strip down job. I have just finished mine.
taking apart and reassembling is not too dificult.but you need to make up a tool to remove and replace the bearings which are two different sizes. It consists of a lenghth of studding, bolts and washers.

If you washer is noisy,

• Check that the water supply valves are turned on
• Inspect the filter screen
• Test for overheating
• Inspect the water pump
  
• Test the water inlet valve
  
• Test the motor

General tips

• Balance the load
• Level the machine
• Inspect the water pump for a blockage
• Inspect the coupling
• Inspect the transmission
• Adjust the drive belt tension
• Check the motor bearings
• Check the drum brakes

If you spin the drum by hand, and it is niosy and rumbling then the main drum bearings have failed.
If under 5 years old, then you should be able to get it repaired under Hotpoint 5 year guarantee, You just pay for labour and call out, cheapest option, it is not really a D.I.Y job, as it is quite involved, and entails a lot of work.

im confused as to why you think no drum rotation would be caused by bearings. typically worn bearings would cause noisy spin. only if bearings were completely seized would that cause no drum rotation. can you rotate drum by hand? if so bearings are not seized. can you hear motor rotate when you select spin? if not, then likely cause is motor brushes. do these simple tests and get back to me if you want. and bearings are quite difficult to replace on this machine
