Could be the memory chip, I used to see this a lot with Panasonic tv's that would lose all memory settings ie channel and tuning memory, with the intermittent vol problem it sounds like dry joints in the amp section, always check the components around the heatsinks for dry joints, especially capacitors and transisters, pay to get your hands on a service manual showing all the layout and different componets.

No disc error dvd

You need to try cleaning the lens of the player. If that doesn't correct it you might have lens damage.

I am wanting to connect my portable wharfdale dvd player to a tv. where can i get the right connection cable. thanks

Usually somewhere like radio Shack will have those cables, they are called AV, Audio Visual Cables, You need 3 Cables, with "Male Jacks" at both ends, usually Red & White, (The Audio), & Yellow, (Video). They connect color to color at each end, and on the TV you select "Aux", "Extern", but NOT a channel. If you have "Component Video, then you will need a set of 3 & 2 cables, (5 all together) Blue, Red, Green, ALL Video, & White & Red, Audio. you select the "Input" on the TV the same as for AV. So with AV, you use 3 cables, with Component, you use 5. If HDMI you need a single HDMI cable. cables.

I have a Harman/Kardon AVR 325. Left speaker not working with TV

How is TV audio (from the cable box) getting into the Receiver? If digitally, you wouldn't be missing any one channel on a connection malfunction, you'd lose them all. If analog, swap the channels around to isolate the problem (and reconsider using digital).
