I had previously requested help with my Sony DVP-NC675P Multi-disc DVD from FIXYA and was advised to blow compressed air across the laser. I opened the DVD player and there was no dust at all. Nevertheless, I blew compressed air across the laser. I visualized the cleaning disc within the player and noted that it was not spinning. I gave it a little shove and it did spin properly. Then I tried the same with a regular DVD. It also would not spin until I gave it a shove. It then spun for about 30 seconds and stopped even though I pressed the "play" button.
The first suggestion did not solve this problem. Could you suggest something else?
I had the exact same problem.
There was a bad batch of spindle motors (why they didn't use brushless is any body's guess). I replaced mine and it is quite easy. I even soldered in the single-DVD player's (same basic model number, just not multi-disk) motor because I couldn't find the right part for the multi-disk model (or the single was cheaper, I forget). That was years ago and it still works great today (I didn't like the lack of features on a cheap replacement player).

The disc will not spion until the optics realize that a disc is there. Try cleaning the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. If that fails, then the optics are at fault and need to be replaced. It is possible that the spindle motor (one that spins the disk) is faulty. Unfortunately, that is not a part that is available from Sony. Because of the way the whole optics assembly is built and alignd, this part is not a replaceable part. Try playing a CD. If the CD plays but the DVD does not, that indicates that the optics are failing as the DVD requires more laser power to function properly.

Take it to the aurthorised sony service center may be the lense require tuning on the preset or needs to be replaced.
Unfortunately, it sounds like this unit needs a new stepper motor.
Parts for this model are available widely, since it is a popular model, but replacing the spin motor isn't necessarily a DIY project.
