1- use good quality batteries 2-adjust angle of receiver's antenna for best position(45 degrees ) 3-see if position of your hand on the mic body is causing this problem in which case IF transformer next to crystal needs adjustment.
Sounds like the signal is dropping to the receiver. Make sure there is nothing obstructing the receiver and transmitter and yo are not out of range of the receiver. Make sure you are using fresh, good quality batteries as this can affect it too
I suggest calling Shure Applications Engineering at 800-516-2525, option 1. They can help you troubleshoot the mic. Have the mic with you when you call.

The "SM58" is just the cartridge on the top. It would depend on the model of handheld transmitter. The model number is on a sticker in the battery compartment.
The LX series was discontinued by Shure several years ago. They no longer have any new transmitters that would work with your receiver. You could look for a used transmitter, but it would need to be on the exact same frequency as your receiver. That will not be easy to find.
