I think you printer cartridge as sensor which ink levels as it is failed in the black cartridge ,you can either clean the contacts the printer and cart with dry tissue paper and replace and set printer installing new cart or use it like this because the printer company doe not support refilled cartridges to be used .

Start with printer on then run this software
Click Reset Main (main) to reset waste ink counter and then click Reset Platen button (additional)

When you insert a refilled ink cartridge into your Pixma MP500 printer you should get a warning about the refilled cartridge. You should also be prompted, asking if you wish to disable ink level detecting. Agree to do so, and you won't get the warnings again because the ink levels won't be monitored by the printer.

Just changed cartridges to refills and clour and black lights flashinghowever we can still print ok. Why are the lights flashing?

The lights are flashing because you are using refilled cartridges. The printer "sees" those cartridges as empty, since it can not know that someone has refilled them. When you put in new cartridges, the lights will stop flashing.
Just ignore the lights and print!

Hope that helps!

Printer won't print black ink

The black is always the first to wear out on the printhead. If you are using a refilled cartridge check the side of the cartridge, if you can see ripples near the hole at the bottom then the blotter material has been pushed up inside and can't contact the filter in the printhead. If all is good you will need a new printhead, QY6-0049-000

Troubleshooting in scanning and printing

You have to reset that cart. before you fill it there should be instructions on how to do this on the refill kit you bought, you cannot just fill the cart and put it in the printer you will dmage the print head if you have not already done so. I cannot see what was done so I could not give you a solution but only tell you that the ink needs to be charged before you put it into the printer!!!

Refilled ink cartridges problem colour

this is not a printer problem, you have a problem with colour cartridge! u can fix this in 2 diferent way: 1. replace the colour cartridge with new one, or gently clean the nozzle cartridge with a wet tissue until the cyan colour mark a line on the tissue just like the others colours: yellow and magenta. maybe must repeat this several times.

Replacement cartridge

Try removing the colour cartridge. Clean the contacts (the part they tell you not to touch) with a damp tissue and then with a dry tissue. Ensure there are no obstructions within the printer and that there is no tape left on the cartridge which should have been removed. Fit the cartridge back in. Turn the printer off then on again. Now hold in both the colour and black copy buttons for atleast 10 seconds. (Sometimes these printers think you are using a cartridge which has been previously used, and in canons attempts to stop refillers, they have incorporated an error. Hold in the previously mentioned buttons to overide that error.)

Not print and not scann without colour cartridge

All cartridges must be present before the printer will operate. Essentially black is obtained by printing all colours together. Some makes/models of printer will allow black printing only for text printing. This is a printer 'PROPERTIES' function and you will have to seek this out by reading the manual fully.
