Hi. If your saying that you're USB is not being recognize by your computer then you should try that USB on a different machine and try if its working there, and if yes the problem is with your computer you just need to update the drivers on your computer to recognize your USB, and if not I think the USB has the hardware issue. Hope This Helps
Here's what you can do since this is a USB wireless adapter, first connect the USB adapter on a different USB port on the computer better if you connect it on the back USB port of the computer tower and check if the computer will recognize it and if its recognize you can already continue with the software installation , but if not you can restart first the computer and check if the adapter will be recognized if still not the next thing to do here just to know if the adapter is good or bad is to connect it on a different computer and just to check if it will be recognized once its connected to a USB port , because a device should be automatically will be recognized by a computer once you connect it so if its still not recognized by a different computer adapter is bad...
Try to plug it in another hub, if your computer still doesn't recognize it, try plugging it in another computer and see if that computer recognizes it. If it does, then there might be something wrong with other computer. If it doesn't, then there might be driver issues with your USB.
You mentioned that you uninstalled the unknown device from the Device manager. If you uninstall it then connected your usb flash drive you will see an error again on your device manager. This means that the driver for your usb port is not properly installed.
To install it, visit dell website, look for the model of your machine and locate the driver, download it then install from your machine.
This solution worked for me when I got the USB device not recognized message: http://www.infobarrel.com/USB_Port_Repair It can be quite frustrating. I've heard that older computers are more likely to have the USB device not recognized message.
