It could be as simple as the fader switch being turned to the off position for the rear speakers, I would check this first. It is also possible that the rear speakers are blown. I would not think that the rear speakers are on a separate circuit than the front but that is also possible so I would check the fuses.
Swap the front speakers to the rear and the rears to the front. If the rears now don't play, it's in the radio. Double check the fader control. If that is correct it is the internal amp. If the fronts don't play after switching, it's the speakers. Use an Ohm meter to check the wiring and the speakers. It should be 4 or higher. If it is 2 or lower, it will cause the internal amp to fail. Check the wiring and make sure it is not pinched and make sure the speaker terminals are not touching metal where they are mounted. Hello,
In a surround sound system, the correct way to listen to music is in stereo mode which will play out of your left and right channels and your subwoofer. When viewing a movie with surround sound, then you should use your rear speakers. The key element to remember is that rear speakers are only intended to play your sound effects, and will not play full range audio. Thats what your fronts and center are for. If you simply want to override this, than you will need to select the direct sound field on your receiver and than it will send full range audio to all speakers connected. Most likely, its not going to sound that good. If you dont know what each sound field does, here is a list and function of the most commonly used ones.
Stereo-Front Left and Right speakers including subwoofer
Dolby Digital or PLII Movie-these are the bost options for your surround sound
Direct-All speakers connected get full range signal
Good Luck
It sounds like you have your front and rear speakers wired backwards, your rear speakers are connected to the front input and vice a versa. To test that, select "front"and you should only get sound from the rear speakers. That would also explain why the fader is backwards too.
Is the source signal of a surround sound type? Also, be sure that the rear speakers are on, (if your receiver has a speaker switch on it), and they are hooked up properly.
my speakers went out front and rear i was told by an audio tech. that the systems that chevrolet put in them each speaker has its own amp to bust the sound the only way to fix it is to replace them.
if you have a warranty chevrolet will replace them otherwise find a junk yard or new system. i ordered a set of used speakers off ebay havent installed yet.
No fader control when using the onboard amplifer or an external one? Do you have all of the speakers hooked up correctly or are you running the fronts and rears off of two speaker outputs?
If the amp still goes into protect mode, the easiest thing to do is disconnect the RCA cables from the amp and see if still goes into protect mode (after turning off/on). If it does, the issue lies in the amp or the wiring to/from the amp (most likely case). Check to make sure no speaker wires came loose and touched +12V or ground (car body). From the sound of it, my guess is something internal to the amp died and will need repair.
