Mitutoyo 0-6"/.0005"/digital Solar Caliper Logo
Posted on Jun 11, 2010

I have a Mitutoyo digital vernier 200mm Code 500-197, model CD-8"CS. I replaced the battery then turned it on ,the numbers on the screen would not absolute all sorts of numbers were coming out, I pressed and held the origin button to get rid of the (inc) top left of screen and pressed zero to get it back to 0, tried this many times to no avail, it was working perfecty before the battery went flat when it showed an error message. I do not have the original instruction manual, and wish to locate them on the net somewhere. i would like to know the answer to this mystery or where I can get a copy of an instruction manual? Thanks.

How to turn off a mitutoyo digital caliper code no 500-115

The Mitutoyo 500-115 caliper does not have an off button. It automatically shuts off after two hours of non use. Very frustrating since after just a few times of using the calipers 6+ hours of time has been used on the battery and consequently it doesn't last long. I am in the middle of adding a switched battery holder to my calipers. I have already milled a channel for the wires and tomorrow I do some soldering and two sided 3M tape to mount it to the back. The switched holder is Adafruit 12mm Coin Cell Breakout w/On-Off Switch [ADA1867]. The battery you should use is 1.55V Number 390 (Energizer). We'll see how this turns out. Sick of putting batteries in it. Go figure total cost of all of this is around $15 which includes a new 390 cell from the hardware store. That's about 5 years worth of batteries. Maybe it's the principle of it. At lease now if/when I do replace the battery, no disassembly required.

Sounds like the new battery you installed is no good. Is the display also dim? When the battery is low that is one of the results on the Mitutoyo. Do you have another battery to try in it?

The answers above by Kerry Littleton have nothing to do with our calipers. The answer above by Bob Pulver is well-intentioned but doesn't address the real issue.

The real issue is the ORIGIN button is little-used and a bit reluctant to "make". The solution is to use a blunt plastic probe to REALLY PUSH down the button and hold it. The caliper will reset to zero.

The face on my dial calipers is turned 90 degrees to match up to 0. How do I adjust it to be correct and readabel?

There should be a small set screw you can loosen by hand and adjust the face of the dial to zero with the jaws closed....this is typical of most calipers...it allows you to zero the dial on a given thickness of material and only read variations based on that thickness.
Take care.
