Dell Axim X51 and Vista

How do I sync my Outlook and MS Money, both of which are loaded on the Axim and my Compaq Presario desk top. I cannot add hardware, recognize the Axim or sync using Vista mobile center and Sync Center? I have downloaded updated drivers for the Axim and downloaded Mobile 6.1 from Microsoft. Nothing seems to help.

You need to download Microsoft exchange server to syncronize outlook on different computers.

Your drivers are fine, is not that the problem.
Synchronizing Outlook (or Money) on different computers always requires an additional software. once Syncronised the two version will share same data in real time.
Usually default choice for Outlook sinchronization is Microsoft Exchange Server.

IF instead of syncronisation you just want a copy of contacts and outlook/money folders on your Axim, then use Export from one system as a csv or pst file and import it into the other system, this will copy the data, but they will not update or share information in real time ., You find export option on Outlook and Money file menu on top.

Microsoft Exchange Server is quite difficult to be configured and used (you will probably need to read a whole book).
Some software company provide alternative tools for synchronizing MS Outlook, but sometimes they do not work on all computers, for example this ones (first one is free, give it a try I do not know if it works

Does not recognize my connection for active sync

Dell made an entry into the market of Personal Digital Assistants (PDA) with Axim X5. The Dell Axim comprises of families of X5, X3, X30, X50 and X51. The Dell Axim PDA can be connected to the computer either by using a cradle or a sync cable. The sync cable connects the device to the computer directly. Here are the steps for connecting a Dell Axim to a computer using a sync cable.
  1. p 1 The Microsoft ActiveSync software must be installed in order to connect the PDA to the computer. This software is found in the Dell Axim Pocket PCmag-glass_10x10.gif Companion CD.
  2. Step 2 The Axim X51 PDA has a 36-pin connector, while the X3 has a 22-pin docking connector.
  3. Step 3 Connect the USB connector found at the end of the sync cable to the computer.
  4. Step 4 Check the PDA. If the PDA is not properly cabled to the computer, you will get the following message: “Connect your device to a computer using a sync cable or cradle before running the system update. Ensure that ActiveSync is installed on the computer and that the ActiveSync connection is successful.”
  5. Step 5 Ensure that the Dell logo faces upward.
  6. Step 6 Use the sync cable to set up a partnership, which can be done multiple times when you sign in as a guest.
