When printing from a PC or when copying, a large (1/4" wide) black line appears on the opposite side (that is being printed on) of the sheet of paper.
It appears that before printing begins a large drop of black ink is released before the paper arrives creating a puddle that is then spread across the back side of the printed document.
We have changed ink cartridges and it hasn't solved the problem.
Almost appears to be a software/signal problem sending a command to open the ink cartridge before the print information has arrived.
Any idea what's causing this and how to proceed?
Rickaydee described it beautifully. What do we do?

I have the same from two weeks ago. have reinstall drivers --> no change, have change cartridge ---> no change. i think it come from the support of the head when the printer is off. In my case this support is very dirty, and its'not easy to clean it without the service manual...
to see this part, put on the prinetr, open as if you want to change cartridge and then put line cord out. head will stay in the middle and you will see on the right part, under the cover the location of this part.
i think solution is to clean, not to change the head or somethink else. But canon dont put the service manuel in public area..
when printing, a dark line appears on the backside of each sheet, creating a messy copy
when printing on the pixma mp800, a black ink line appears on the backside of the printed sheet, creating a messy product.
it is related to the head clean signal, dumps black ink in quanty leaks on to rollers, sorry don,t know how to fix. New print head is almost £100 and not sure to fix problem
I have the same problem with my Canon Pixma MP530. If I print many pages, the line eventually fades away, but the amount of ink in the line has been getting greater over time.
I have a Canon Pixma MP800 with the same problem, a heavy black line on
the back of the page. If I clean the roller it might print 20 pages
cleanly and then it returns and fades away over 10 pages, then 20 clean
pages then a heavy black line again. I have changed all the ink
cartridges, cleaned the rollers and reset the printer. The printer is
just over two years old and the only thing left is to buy a new printer
as I must print urgently. Is it wise to buy another Canon?
