What rechargeable batteries are you using and what's your method of charging?
If your using a dock for charging - make sure you have the battery pack kodak kaa2hr otherwise the dock won't charge it
if you're using a separate charger - it's ok to use other AA ni-mh
please check the age of your batteries as well.. batts, even rechargeable eventually wear out - they can last up to 300 charging cycles and a year or a little more than that is enough for you consider buying a new set
if you say that you barely use the cam, batteries still deteriorate through time

If the rechargeable battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced. Rechargeable batteries will fail if stored in a discharged state for long periods.

Depending on which camera model you have, you can use regular (lithium!) AA batteries in these cameras, no need to buy the specialty 2-battery rechargeable pack and use the printer dock to charge. You can go with regular NiMH rechargeable batteries as well.
The C182 isn't a battery charger. It uses standard AA batteries, disposable or rechargeable. If you use rechargeable batteries, you must charge them outside the camera using a standard battery charger.
you're not completely right. Kodak printer docks normally only charge the Kodak KAA2HR battery pack. It not charges normal Ni-MH rechargeable batteries of any brands.
rechargeable batteries soon run down even when not used,4weeks is about max. if they are running down a lot sooner the either camera is faulty or the batteries are.
try taking out the batteries, and clean the connectors that the batteries touch, and the ends of the batteries (if recharagable). Sometimes a dirty connector can make the batteries seem that they are dead even if they are rechargable. If the camera works with new disposable batteries but not with the rechargable ones, then you may need to purchase some new rechargable ones.
Yes rechargeables need replacing from time to time (after a few hundred charges) or every couple of years.
You can use standard rechargeables but these wont charge on the dock as there is a little switch in the battery bay which the kodak pack presses.
Standard AAs ar'nt recommended for digital cameras but you should get at least a few shots from a new set of alkalines (maybe not if they are cheapo no Alkaline)
There could be another problem with the camera but if you like the camera its probably worth giving a new pack a try.
If I remember rightly (but check as I don't have a 4530 to hand) the battery you want is a KAA2HR and are available on ebay cheaply if you cant find a low cost one locally
Mine did that and all it was is the door that holds you batteries in gets weak over time. If you hold or squeeze the door closed and it does not happen then you have found you problem. Clean the contacts and try to "bend" them outward to get a cleaner and tighter connection.
