My GPS quit locating satellites. It worked fine in the morning, I got out of my car, left it on for a while when I returned it would not aquire any satellites. It shows no bars in the aquire screen. I updated the software on the Garmin web site. Still nada. Everything works fine but I can't navigate as it will not aquire any satillites. Help

This seems to happen quite often with GPS units. There are a few things that could cause this to happen. Is the GPS mounted in view of the sky? If not it may not be able to acquire the satellites. If this is not the problem, try performing a reset by pressing the top left corner of the screen while pressing the power button. These two things will usually help, but in the case that they don't, contact their support at 1-800-800-1020 and they should be able to assist you.
If your using it in your car and your car has tinted windows, the window tint may contain a metal oxide (most common on newer cars) which interferes with the signal. Try holding the unit next to an open window. If that works you may need to get an external antenna from garmin that you can attach on the outside of your car.
have you downloaded the "HotFix" software update for the problem from Garmin yet? if not u will need a mini USB cable (avil on ebay for $5) and then register the GPS at this site www.mygarmin.com and select support or downloads and follow instructions..
When you change geographical locations with any GPS it will take a lot longer for the GPS to acquire the sattelites. Hold the GPS out in an unobstructed area and switch it on. Be patient it will acqurie the signals if it was working before you left home.
I have an eTrex and you can reset the defaults which may help. I don't see any 'reset' operation in the manual other than Restore Defaults.
After switching on and letting the unit go through its initalisation press the button on the front (next to the etrex name) until you get to the main menu. Select Setup and press. Select System and press. Move the button to the left and press. Press the button again to restore defaults. HTH Peter

I had the same problem, I returned first piece and exchanged for the second. Had the same problem with second and took back to Circuit city. The GPS guys took out 3rd one for me and had same problem. Then the manager came who has been using these for couple of years and tried to set the home location 3 times and it worked 3rd time. He did the same for the second returned piece and it also worked. He says since these pieces are programmed for Kansas we need to give 3-4 tried before the piece first 'locates' satellite and then acquires satellite. After the the piece just turned out to be awesome.
