Clean the **** glass with alcohol. The **** glass is the little glass that paper is scanned over when using a automatic document feeder.

How to remove a black line off scanned papers

Black hair lines can come from what is called the slit glass. Does the line appear when you can from just on the glass? If that scan is OK and the line appears when you run through the document feeder than the small glass just before the top glass needs a good clean, or sometimes in the machine the optics has some dirt on it.

Why are pages scanning with lines running through them, but printing perfectly fine?

Try cleaning the rollers. Usually you have to remove the cartridge to get to the rollers that moves the paper.

Ricoh MP 2500 copied documents have a line across top of page when fed into document feeder when document is scanned the line appears on the scanned version as well. line does not appear on...

Clean the scanner strip glass. This is the thinner strip of glass that runs from front to back right next to the large glass. This glass is only used when scanning/copying using the document feeder. The line you are seeing is because something has become stuck to the glass so when the documents are fed over the strip of glass, the scanner reads the stationary spot of debris as a solid line. Clean the glass very well using a cloth and some glass cleaner. I have seen something get under the glass as well but this is very rare. Rest assured tho that the line is being caused by something on this strip of glass.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

Vertical line appear on my HP OfficeJet J 6450

Look at the narrow glass and see if there's white out or anything on it, also the white reference guide above the glass needs to be clean as well. The skinny glass under the adf is where documents are scanned when not placed on the big glass.

Line on Scanned Documents

There is a spot on the thin strip of glass that sits next to the large scanner glass. Because you are moving the paper when using the feeder, a spot appears as a line. Shining a flashlight on the glass can help you locate it. You can scrape it off with a finger nail or clean it with a damp cloth.

Line on Scanned Documents

If you are using the document feeder, chances are something has gotten on the glass recently. Try cleaning the area of the scanner's glass that is to the left (underneath the document feeder) of the main glass.
