Question about Intervideo WinDVD 5 for PC

2 Answers

I have recorded an old VCR tape on to a DVD-R on a Sony converter which I just bought. I got DVD+R's with it. I used DVD-R because I was hoping to use it in my TV, which only takes "-". I am using Lenovo T60 to "play". I have InterVideo DVD5. I can use all the controls, but do not get any audio. Was the type of disc the problem, or is everything I have too old ? I know I am (age 83), but really want to do this ! D.Farley

Welcome to FixYa
Sir,
DVD stands for Digital Versatile/Video Disc, DVDR stands for DVD Recordable and DVDRW for DVD ReWriteable. If you're familiar with regular audio/music CDs or regular DVD-Video discs, then you will know what a recordable DVD looks like. A recordable DVD stores up to 2 hours of very good quality DVD-Video, including several audio tracks in formats like stereo, Dolby Digital or DTS and also advanced menu systems, subtitles and still pictures that can be played by many standalone DVD Players and most computer DVD-ROMs. If you choose to lower the video quality it is possible to store several hours video on a recordable DVD using low bitrates and low resolution with video quality more like VHS, SVHS, SVCD, CVD or VCD. It is also possible to have up to 4.37* GB ordinary data or mix DVD-Video and data on a recordable DVD that can be played by most computer DVD-ROMs.
There are three competing DVD Recording standards, DVD-R/DVD-RW and DVD+R/DVD+RW have pretty similiar features and are compatible with many standalone DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs while DVD-RAM has less DVD Player and DVD-ROM compatibility but better recording features.
Do Following:

  • Check your Audio Driver/Cable Properly installed[To check Audio Play other Audio Files in this Software OR with other Player]
  • Uninstall Program[Converter Software] Completely-Reboot PC-Reinstall it
  • Check the Drive you Trying to Write is able to Write/Write Protected
  • Try to play with any Other DVD Softwares
  • Check DVD codec properly Installed on PC.If not Download it when ask/prompt to Download when Opening Software
VCD do not require any codec but SVCD/DVD requires a MPEG2 Codec or software DVD Player

Hi,

No this is not a DVD-R disc issue. Its all about how you had setup while converting the VCR to DVD-r. Please check the bellow article to be sure that you have it properly set up.

Thank You for contacting Fixya and please accept the solution if it has helped you.

Hi back: I was using a CONVERTER, not a Recorder. Does this make a difference in the link you sent?

    Thanks.....D

OLD P6-120 Tapes

The only way if to get an 8mm player from any friend or from any photography studios that does conversion of old tapes. These recordings can be converted only if they can play well and hopefully without deterioration due to magnettic fields and fungus. Check out on old stores or maybe some electronic freaks who would be glad to share and ,make a transfer. Use can use a good handy cam to record using the the composite signals of video and audio which can be transferred to DVD. Hope you are lucky to find one! Good day.

Have digital TV have 3 yr old sony VHS VCR DVD player combo

A DTV converter box will take digital broadcast signals from the antenna and convert them to a format compatible with the VCR. You will be able to record programs received through the DTV box on your VCR if you could record analog over-the-air programs before the digital changeover. You can use either the RF output or the component output from the DTV box to input to the VCR.

I just bought a Magnavox ZV450MW8A DVD/VCR Recorder. It has recording capabilities on both the DVD and VCR components but can you tell me if I can use it to record FROM the VCR directly onto the DVD? This...

Yes, you can, I have this unit and have actually copied a dvd to a vhs and then copied back to a dvd as I wanted a dvd copy to give a friend. The directions in the book are really quite simple. They tell you how to set the vhs to the spot where you want to start copying, etc.

I have not yet tried copying my family vhs tapes, but don't see a problem, just a big project. Good luck.

VCR tape playback not good

Check your "tracking" If the tape played fine in the old machine, then tracking is the answer, provided that the new machine records good.

Recording Snow

If you hook your VCR up to the RCA jacks on the front of the DVD recorder, push 002 on the remote to use the front input jacks. (001 if you hook your VCR up to the rear input jacks)

Push record on the DVD recorder, and push Play on the VCR.
(Pg. 35 in the manual)

When you push play on the VCR, you should be able to see the movie being played on your TV. If you cannot, make sure your RCA cables are good and hooked up correctly.

That's all you have to do, so if it's not recording I would try to take the unit back for an exchange.
