These radios are notorious for having bad external speaker sockets on the rear of the radio I have several and they all suffer from it. I would suggest having the External speaker socket and the PA socket both replaced with new ones The stuff from Radio Shack is about the same quality as what came in the radio if you want better look for Switchcraft Plugs and Sockets.

The repair may not have been done correctly, and may need to be done again.

You should try connecting a speaker to the External Speaker jack on the back of the radio to see if it is a problem with the internal speaker or not. If you have the room, use the external speaker - you can choose whichever type you like and not be stuck with what is usually a cheap, crappy sounding internal type.

Good luck!

My Onkyo TX-SV636 keeps going back to protect mode each time the power is turned on how can I fix this myself

Often amplifiers will display "Protect" if bare speaker wires are touching each other, the back of the amplifier or part of the speaker housing. Check all of the wiring, including any pins/jacks that could have a loose wire. If all of the wiring is good, then the short is internal to the amplifier. See page 44 of the manual available at ManualsLib: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/302316/Onkyo-Tx-Sv636.html?page=44#manual .

I hope this helps.

I have a problem with the tweeter sound in one of my VR975 Boston speakers. The highs seem to come and go. It is definitely limited to one of the speakers because I can switch cable connections in the...

A loose or intermittent cable contact on the OUTSIDE would affect ALL speaker output, not just the high frequencies, and it would probably produce speaker-threatening crackles.

That loose tweeter connection the other guys found isn't fixed. Go back and make them fix it right.

What are your present speaker connection ends if NOT bare wire?

Sounds like a loose ground. Obtain a good volt/ohm meter and the wiring shop manual for your model and trace out the wires.
You should be able to find and fix the problem.
Sometimes weather will wrinkle the cones in speakers. Check yours, if they are dried and distorted take them to the parts counter guy and get new ones.

Rf gain has no effect on radio at all/galaxy 44 model

test resistance of the variable resistor ( rf gain) to make sure the pot is not dry use some electrical lube behind the pot to clean internal connections. pot resistance is stamped on the back.
other than that if your receive is week you have most likely a fault in one of the filters or pll

Speaker cut out

Hi,

The problem sounds like either the connectors from the radio to the speakers disconnecting.

To fix this I suggest you work out which speaker is getting is cutting in and out. Then you take the speaker out and check the connectors are attached to the speaker correctly. If the connectors are loose or don't have dirt or something stopping the from making a clean connection the speaker this can cause a problem.

If after checking the speaker connectors the problem persists you need to take the radio out can check the connectors on the radio have not come loose or anything.

If it still doesn't work after that I would then look to replace the radio, as if the speakers are working some of the time that would mean that the problem is probably with the radio not the speakers.

Hope that helps

well I have in the past been able to strip the rubber back to the bare wire on both ends and then twist them together. use electrical tape to cover any exposed wire this should fix it.
