Car radio not picking up stations

Check the radio earth, the aerial cable and the point at which the cable reaches the aerial.

If there is no fault, take the radio back to where you bought it.

I just bought the RCA CD/DVD home theater system RTD206. I cant figure out how to change the radio channels. Also cant figure out how to change the cd disk tracks. Does this system have a remote. Or do...

The system does have a remote (at least it should come with one if purchased new), and you need it to control pretty much everything. Here's what the manual says about the radio tuner (you can find the whole manual here) :

Manual Tuning
1. Connect the FM aerial and the AM loop antenna at the back of the unit. Rotate the AM loop for
better reception.
2. Press TUNER to enter TUNER mode and toggle between FM and AM.
3. When the FM station broadcasts Stereo sound, ST is displayed.
4. Tune a station by pressing repeatedly the TUNER+/- buttons until the desired station is found.
Alternatively, you can press and hold the same buttons down for about one second to activate
the automatic search function. In this mode the player will automatically tune frequencies until
it finds a station.
5. Repeat step 4 to tune to another radio station.

Storing radio stations
The player can store up to 30 radio stations in its memory. You can enter every single radio station
yourself or the player can store all available radio stations automatically in ascending order.
Automatic preset programming
1. Press TUNER to enter the Tuner mode.
2. Press and hold TUNER down for 3 seconds to start automatic preset programming.
Note: A weak signal can affect the "Automatic preset programming" function's efficiency. Adjust the aerial for better
reception and a more efficient search.
3. Radio frequencies will be browsed and radio stations stored automaitcally. When all the available
radio stations are stored or all 30 memory locations are full, the auto preset programming
function will stop.

Manual preset
1. Tune to a radio station (see "Manual tuning" for details).
2. Press MEMORY once to enter flashing Preset Loaction number.
3. While the Preset Location number is still flashing, input your desired preset number (1-30) using
the numeric buttons or press the CH+/- buttons, then press MEMORY to store it.

Retrieving preset stations
1. Press TUNER to enter the Tuner mode.
2. Press CH+/- to search up or down for the preset stations or directly press the numeric buttons.

As you see, you really need that remote. The same is true for disc play. While there are front panel buttons for play/stop, disc skip, and drawer open/close, you don't have any other control without the remote. Without the remote control you'll find this system won't do too much, unfortunately. If you bought this new, check the packing material before you throw it away to make sure the remote's not still somewhere in the box. They often come tucked into slots on the foam inserts.

Also, when you hook the unit to a TV, it's just using the TV as a video display device. The TV has nothing to do with any of the system's other functions.

I hope you have luck locating the remote! Thanks for using Fixya.

Just picked up a Technics ST-S76 am/fm tuner complete with cords but no operating manual - of course. How do I program in radio stations to memory? or Find an operators manual?

To program your radio stations to the memory buttons; Tune to the station that you want to save, then press the memory button (located next to the FM mode button on the lower right side of Tuner) then press the number button that you want associated with that station. You may save up to 24 stations. If you want to save a station in memory 10, tune in station, press the Memory button, then press 1 followed by 0. you must press them within a couple seconds of each other, or the first number pressed will be the memory button that saves. You may save FM stations and then Save AM stations. But you will overwrite any previous station saved to a given number when using that number again. If you save an FM station on a number, then save an AM station on another number, when you press the preset number, the tuner will automatically switch radio bands to accommodate the stations given band. cool.

I am not interested in traffic information at all. I want to hear radio without interruption, especialy when I sit at home. How can I prevent traffic information interrupting my radio ?

MostRDS radios can receive short messages which might include informationabout the presenter, station or programme you are listening to. Forexample, BBC Radio 1's RadioTEXT always gives information about thepresenter and programme e.g. JOHN PEEL - TONIGHT IN SESSION.. ETC.., whereas Classic FM gives information which includes a web address for the station, e.g. CLASSIC FM ON THE WEB - WWW.CLASSICFM.COM.The information will usually scroll across the display on a home tuner, but this could be distracting to a driver in a car, so the RadioTEXTmessage in a car hi-fi does not scroll.

Theradio display can show if the station broadcasts travel information.Since most stations do anyway, this feature by itself is of limitedvalue. The Traffic Announcement (TA) feature allows interruption of aCD or cassette tape when there is a travel report from the radiostation that is currently tuned-in. The radio will automatically switchfrom CD or tape to the radio for the duration of the travelannouncement. Commercial radio stations willbroadcast three tones or 'bleeps' before and after the travel bulletin, but BBC radio stations do not need this. These DTMF tones are used whenthe transmitter (where the RDS inserter physically is) is locatedremotely from the studio, and for reasons of cost or practicality thereis no control path from the studio to the transmitter to tell thetransmitter when to switch on the TA flag. The only link from studio totransmitter is the station audio itself. Inthese situations, "in-band signalling" is used. A unit at thetransmitter site listens out for the DTMF tones in order to switch theTA flag on and off. The DTMF tones are recorded on the traffic jinglesto make life easier for the presenter. For the TA feature to work underany circumstances, however, the function marked TA, TI, TP or 'Traffic'must be switched on. It is possible to search out only those stations broadcasting the Traffic Programme on some radios.
