HP Pavilion dv1000 Notebook Logo

My DVD on HP Pavillion 1000 doesn't work. After my son re-installed Windows Xp for me, it just quit working. I get the notice Create overlay failed. Please lower your screen resolution and try again. I've done this, but it does't help. I have noticed that th Video Controller and Video Controller (VGA Compatable) says that the drivers for this device are not installed. I've tried the reinstall driver button, but it wouldn't do it. Maybe it does't have anything to do with the dvd anyway...I don't know. Not very computer savvy. Any simple solutions?

Thankyou so much for responding to my question. You suggested I download drivers for my video card. I don't have a video card and I never needed one before. Should I get one? Is this something I can get at Radio Shack, etc? Also, I tried to download the audio drivers and it wouldn't let me do that either. :( Thanks...Linda P.

Again, thankyou so much for your response. Your instructions are very simple and should be easy to do. However, my computer just won't download these drivers. I keep getting the message 'Unable to fullfill your request at this time. Please try again later.' I thought maybe the wireless connection wasn't strong enough, so put it on my dial up, but it still gives me the same message. I so much appreciate your taking so much time with me. Thank you. Linda P.

You will need to pay a visit to the HP website to download the drivers for your video card.
They can be located HERE
.
While you are there, udate any other drivers like audio etc. As is stands you will be running very outdated Microsft WDM drivers. Nowhere near as good as the genuine thing.

All computers have a video card, just some are not seperate and built onto the motherboard.

They still use drivers just like their plugin counterparts.

The driver is a software built to interact between the video card and the computer (and the user of course) so without the driver being installed, it runs in a safe mode format where the computer only tells it to do the most basic tasks.

Goto HP's webside with THIS link. Click on the START DETECTION button and it should solve your mystery about what drivers you will need.

I have downloaded the driver and sent it to another site to enable you to get it.

Click HERE to automatically begin the download.

Sir, i have hp mini 210-1000 laptop without cd/dvd. while installing windows xp i have deleted the partitions & tried to install xp from usb but failed. please help me to install windows xp .

Check the BIOS to see if you can make the USB as the first boot device, if you can then you will be able to install XP from the USB flash memory stick.
The reason why your XP installation failed is because in most older laptops, the USB port does not work until Windows XP has been installed.
Your hard disk may have an Windows XP install partition that you can access to reinstall Windows, provided you have not deleted this partition.

Can't boot up, keeps going back to choices, safe mode, last know good configuration, etc. none work. Pavillion dv 1000 with XP

Hello,

this is because your operating system files is corrupt for one reason or the order.

To solve this problem, you need to re-run windows operating system CD (Win XP), by reinstalling windows afresh or repairing windows. This will help to re-install the corrupt files.

That's what you need to do in order to solve the problem.

Good luck.

Dvd writer does not write or read any dvd on hp pavillion a1230n windows xp operating system

Try booting from the disc drive with a windows CD. If it does work, then try uninstalling from devices in windows, then scan for hardware changes and re-install. If its still not working I suggest doing a backup of your files and re-install windows, a corrupted registry may also cause this. If trying to boot from CD does not work you will need to replace the DVD drive

How to restart hp pavillion 7965 desktop

Hi there. Try these steps:

1. On restart, press F8. This should bring you to a screen with various boot options.

2. Select "Last known good configuration". Windows then may load correctly.

3. If this doesn;t work, try the same thing. This time select "boot in Safe Mode". If Windows now loads in Safe Mode you should be able to restart and Windows may load correctly after this.

4. If these two both fail, you may have to repair Windows...
