Can't get closed captions to turn off.

What's the TV source? For most TVs, caption feature only works with signals on the antenna (RG-59/RG-6). That is over-the-air or cable without a set-top box.

For all other sources, you need to enable/disable the captions at the box (or a primary box, for some setups).

Some remotes will have a caption button. Otherwise, you'll have to search in the menus. On my IPTV set-top box, to access the closed captions control, I have to press Menu. After choosing the setup menu, I need to enter a code (from my service provider), then enter the Audio menu. Inside that sub-menu, I can access the Captions section. Years ago, I helped a neighbor with enabling closed captions on a secondary TV that was served by a satellite box in another room. The set-top box at the primary TV needed to be set that signal to Single Mode (show the same program on both TVs). This was done by pressing physical buttons on the box. Then enter menu system on that set-top box. Navigate to and select properties. The closed captions menu was inside this sub-menu. When the captions were enabled at the primary box in dual mode, the captions only displayed on the primary set.

I hope this helps.

Closed captioning wont turn off

Closed captioning is usually on the original remote, labeled CC.
If not, you can find it within the on-screen menu, under captioning, sometimes it's located under the audio menu, then captioning. Try the remote first, it's usually the one that does it.

I need to activate CC for my Dad, Please help I have to go to work. I have a flat screen SOYO

Determine if closed captioning is available on the program that you've selected. In your program guide, the letters "CC" should appear at the end of the description.
Locate the closed captioning option on your remote. Some remotes have a "CC" button that you simply need to push to activate closed captioning
Locate the closed captioning option in your television's menu if there is no "CC" button on your remote. To do this, push the "menu" button on the remote control. The closed captioning option will probably be in the same section as the language function.
Set the closed captioning option to "on." Within several seconds, you should see the text appear on your screen.
To use closed captioning for DVDs, look for the "CC" label on the lower back section of the DVD case where it lists audio information. Turn on your TV's closed captioning and you should see the captioning like you do on a television program. Alternately, some DVDs include English subtitles that you can turn on in the setup/language menu of the DVD.
Thank you.

I can not remove closed captioning on all my channels. i use time warner cable remote control. i dont know how captioning came about. pls help. thanks

As best I can tell, the TWC remote requires about 12 steps to turn CC on & off - very annoying and I can't understand why it's not simpler. Hit the blue menu button near the top; scroll down or up to Settings, hit enter, scroll down or up to Captioning, hit enter, scroll to how you want CC (off, on, or just when Mute), hit enter, then hit Exit to clear the screen. A pain, no?

Unable to remove the closed caption through the remote control (Haier) 42 inch flat screen tv. Went through the function and selected 'No' to Closed Caption, but it does not remove it. Thanks, Sandy

I dont know what model you have i see two on there website. i read manual for one of the 42 inch lcd tvs and i do see where you confirmed you said off to closed caption mode am i correct? Ok try this turn the closed caption on and exit menu. now shut off tv and turn it back on. now go into menu and turn closed caption mode to off now and exit menu and see if that helps. ok i hope this helps ....oh i forgot to mention make sure that you didnt enable the closed captioning on your cable box remote. Just might want to check with that. It might not be your tv at all it could be the cable boxes closed captioning service. I hope some of this helps if not see if there is a factory reset in the menu.

Closed caption

Closed caption wont turn off was solved by Bresnan tech. He told me the only way was to push the power button on my remote & then push the menu button right away & it would bring up a white screen & cc would be on it. I could't get it to work so I pushed the power button on my remote & the menu button on my motorola cable box & up came the screen & closed caption was on it. I disabled it & it took off the closed caption. Hope this helps
