Hi, I have a Tasco world class 3-9x42mm Scope that I am trying to mount on a .22 with Leupold Rings. The problem is that I install the scope in the rings but when trying to sight in it with a laser, I ran out of adjustmen (both Elevation and windage) the laser is still above the horizontal and right of the vertical. I could try to use a plastic insert between the ring and the scope to offset the missadjustment, pretty much like those Burris Pos align inserts, only I would make them out of plastic. By the amount offset and to let the scope in the midle adjustment capability I calculate it will require a .0885". Any Ideas? or comments?

First, adjust wind-age and elevation to center or zero position. Remove your scope from the gun and make sure that the scope mounts are aligned, this is critical. Purchase an alignment tool is necessary. Then remount the scope. The scope should seat in the mounts without binding. If it does bind, the mounts are not aligned.
Start sighting in at close range,10 to 30 yards, then move out to 100 yards.

No, this is not a scope issue. The scope is raised above the centerline of the barrel, thus at 10 yards, the barrell is actually slightly raised in relation to the centerline of the scope in order to hit your point of aim. Since the front of the barrel is slightly inclined, at 25 yards the bullet is still rising in relation to the scope alignment. Backing up to 50 yards you will begin to see the bullet start to drop back down, at 100 yards it may drop as much as 8-10 inches, and at 200 yards, it may drop as much as 52 inches. This is assuming that you are shooting a standard velocity .22 long rifle cartridge (1050 feet per second or so).

To get the reticule straight up and down, yes, turn the whole scope till your eye sees it as level. The adj screw on the windage could be over too far, making it hard to turn, if that is the case, you will need to shim the mount. If it was on a bolt action rifle, you could mount the rifle in a box, or a vise, something to hold it steady, peek down the bore at a target 100 yards away, then bring the cross hairs to the target. Look back down the bore and make sure it didn't move. This will put you on paper at 100 yards. It might not be easy on a Winchester type rifle. Hope this helps.
