I have had my Garmin 60csx for about 8 months & love it. Recently I took it with me down to Mexico. The unit keep turning itself off. I thought maybe I bought bad/old batteries, but I bought new ones & it still happend the next day. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I've had the same problem until I updated the software to version 4.00.
To see your Software version push Menu 2x, choose Setup, choose System, push Menu, choose Software Version. It will tell you the software version on top.
You can download the latest version on the Garmin website.
Enjoy
It may be the batteries moving after a bump especially when cycling. I lined the battery cover with thin single sided canopy tape and bought the largest NiMh 2650 mAh batteries. Now the batteries don't move after a shock. Garmin should know the problem, they built the 60Csx with poor metal tab battery compartments, should have been spring loaded.
I also had problems with wild battery fluctuations and the appearance of excessive battery consumption. Again it was metal tabs instead of wires between the battery board and the main board. I soldered two thin stranded wires between the main board and the battery board.
I haven't had any problems for 1.5 years since i did both fixes. Love the Garmin now! >RocketRob
OK, I've managed to overcome the problem :D I've formated the micro SD card and now it works without any glitches :D

Mine 60CSx does the same thing. I turn it on and it works for 20sec and then the screen just fades out. I tried new bateries and the problem is still here. When I plug it in the computer the same thing happens.
Used my Garmin 60csx for a Mountain Bike Race in Portugal and it started powering off with no apparent reason. Changing batteries did not help. Also made sure that the batteries were seated properly. Garmin were sponsors of the event and exchanged the unit for a new one. A number of competitors experienced the same problem as mine.
The new unit worked fine initially, but has also started powering off during use.
Sources say that Garmin has no idea what is the cause.
I'm really disappointed !!
Mine is doing the exact same thing, except it only worked for an hour before it started doing this. It does work when powered via USB, just not off batteries (and I've tried multiple sets). Sounds like a manufacturing defect.
I has something to do with software, trust me
GPSMAP 60 CSx work fines until I try to do a "go to" for a waypoint, then the screen fades away and the unit powers off.
