I have two laptops and want to set up a wireless network. I have the wireless set up but it isn't secure. When I go in to the Homegroups page it asks me for a 4 or 8 digit PIN number found on the router. There is no 4 or 8 digit number that works. Where else can I find this number? I have an ESR-9753 model. Thanks

If you don't know it, you won't be able to automate your Wifi Protected Setup (WPS). The pin is a very specific way to prevent yourself from always having to remember codes, keys, passphrases, etc. Without it, its like saying that you want to to connect to Bank of America, and that it's just okay because you want it to happen.

The following is taken from the ESR-9753 manual:

- Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS)

WPS is the simplest way to establish a connection between the wireless clients
and the wireless router. You don’t have to select the encryption mode and fill in a
long encryption passphrase every time when you try to setup a wireless
connection. You only need to press a button on both wireless client and wireless
router, and the WPS will do the rest for you.

The wireless router supports two types of WPS: WPS via Push Button and
WPS via PIN code. If you want to use the Push Button, you have to push a
specific button on the wireless client or in the utility of the wireless client to start
the WPS mode, and switch the wireless router to WPS mode. You can simply
push the WPS button of the wireless router, or click the ‘Start to Process’ button
in the web configuration interface. If you want to use the PIN code, you have to
know the PIN code of the wireless client and switch it to WPS mode, then fill-in
the PIN code of the wireless client through the web configuration interface of the
wireless router.

The wireless network security settings on laptop do not match settings on router?

Hello.
- This error occurs when the wireless security that you set on the wireless laptop does not match the wireless security on the router.
  • If the wireless router's security setting is WPA but on the laptop you used WEP for the wireless security, that's when a mismatch occurs.

- What you can do to resolve the problem is to delete the wireless profile you created on the laptop. After that, let the laptop search for wireless connection available, select the correct wireless settings and it should connect.
--For example the operating system of your computer is Vista, in order to remove the wireless profile you created and reconnect to the wireless router, do the following instructions:- Go to Start>Control Panel>Network and Internet> Network and Sharing Center- Click on Manage Wireless Networks on the left panel. Delete the wireless profile then Search for available wireless networks again. Type the correct wireless security settings on your laptop
-- If you would like to know what wireless security has been setup on the router, connect the laptop or use a desktop which is wired to the router then access the router setup page by typing http://www.routerlogin.net or 192.168.1.1 in the address field of your browser and then press Enter. Enter admin for the router user name and your password (or the default, password).

11_26_2011_10_21_15_am.png

--After logging in. In the main menu on the left, click on Wireless Settings, from there you can check the wireless security or you can setup wireless security from there if you haven't done so.

Hi I have just installed a brand new Belkin wireless router and it works great with all computers and laptops in the family (including Apple products) apart from my daughters laptop...she has a toshiba...

Check the main computer you set up the network router with...you may need to go to the network status and tasks in control panel...click on this...then you will see a map of all the network devices connected...find the belkin router and click on it...in this window there should be a tab called wireless properties..click this...the wireless properties first page should have the wireless SSID name listed here...and if you click the security tab then the security type and network key are displayed here..You need to write down the SSID, security type, and network key and make sdure the toshiba laptop setting for the wireless network are exactly the same. There may be a link on the first page of the wireless securities saying copy to usb drive..you can use this to copy all network settings to and then transfer these settings in to the toshiba by using the network setup wizard.

Win xp desktop connected to wrt54gs router wants laptop running win 7 to connect wirelessly

We need to know the wireless settings on your router before configuring the laptop.

To check the wireless settings, access the setup page of the router by using the desktop's internet browser. In the address bar, type 192.168.1.1.

Default login is: leave the username blank, then the password is admin.

Once you are in the setup page, go to the Wireless tab.

Take note of the wireless network name (SSID).

Then go to the Wireless Security tab. Take note of the wireless security settings and the network key (if wireless security is enabled).

On your laptop, in the lower right corner of your screen you will see an icon that looks like this moz-screenshot-1.jpgc147bd5.png.

Click the icon and you will see a list of available networks.

Select the SSID of your router then click connect.

If the wireless security is enabled, it will ask for the security key. Type the wireless network key, then click ok.

It will then connect wirelessly.

No network

The Wireless Security of the router doesn't match your laptop's wireless settings. Make sure you configure the wireless security password correctly on the laptop. If you don't know your wireless password, try these steps:

-Connect your laptop hard wired to the router.
-Open Internet Explorer and on the Address Bard type http://192.168.1.1 press enter.
-It will prompt you for username and password. By default, there's no username and on the password type admin and hit OK. If admin didn't work, type your own password for the router.
-When you get to the Setup page, click on Wireless Tab, then click the sub-tab Wireless Security.
-Look for Security Mode. If Security Mode is WPA-Personal, the Passphrase is the wireless security key that you need to enter on the laptop's wireless settings. If the Security Mode is WEP, the WEP Key 1 is your wireless security key. Connect to the wireless network and type it in. That should solve your wireless connection problem.
