DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

Your hard drive is not being recognised by your computer, so therefore it will not try to boot from it.

The PXE message you can ignore, it's the computer trying ot boot from the network card (because it can't find the hard drive)

You didn't memntion if this is a desktop or a laptop so..

Dektop:

1. Remove the power cable
2. Remove the side panel to the case
3. Unplug the hard drive connectors - There are 2 types in a desktop, IDE has a power cable with a big white plug on it 4 wires, and an IDE cable, flat and wide.
4. Plug them back in, they willonly go one way then check the other end of the IDE cable
5. Attach the power cord and try again (leave the side panel off for now)

SATA:
2 smaller connectors One thin cable (can be any colour but normally red) and one power cable with a thin black connector.Just give these a push back towards the drive to make sure they are secure, do not remove them.

Try to start and see what happens.

It is possible that your hard drive has failed, though they normally start to cause problems before they go.

Laptop
These can be anywhere in laptops, but normally under one side you will find a panel that when opened will reveal the hard drive. Dell laptops normally put them in the side of the laptop and there is an access panel to be removed there as well.

If you have a laptop, then post back the model number togive a clearer idea of where it will be before you pull the whole thing apart =)

Try that and see what happens. Post back results please.

I too faced the similar problem and find an alternate solution for the same. Insert your XP Cd and boot using CD ROM. Select Repair option and then it will show you the default command prompt as C:> there you type in

c:> chkdsk

if ur HDD has any error/corrupted files in it then it will display that it has one or more corrupted/damaged files. If so then try the below command

c:> fixboot

and then run

c:> chkdsk

then try to reboot your machine.

The message DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER comes when your OS got currepted or the system is trying to boot from such a device which don't have OS on it.

• That is if you have insert a non-bootable floppy disk/CD/DVD in floppy drive/CD/DVD drive and the First Boot Option in BIOS is floppy/CD/DVD then this message will appear, as you are a tech-person, so you can understand what i am saying.....

To fix this problem:

1. First remove any floppy/CD/DVD from drives, if you have inserted any one. Try to boot, if no luck then do the followings.
2. Goto your BIOS setup by pressing Del/F2/F12 (which one you BIOS supports to get into BIOS setup) at startup.
3. Navigate Boot option and make sure first boot is IDE0/HDD or something like that (It depends on your BIOS).
4. Save setting by pressing F10
5. Try to boot.

If still does not fixed, then I think its time to re-install your OS.

Thank you so much- you all just saved my PC, I unplugged all of the IDE and power cables, then my PC detected a change and allowed me to go into BIOS and select Hard Disk as the first boot device. Very Happy indeed.
