I have found it is easiest to remove the clutch and back clutch cover, along with the recoil starter.

When i am installing my battery on my 97 polaris scrambler it keeps tryn to start the motor, but the key is off and not in the run position

hi. you need to replace your key switch or starter solenoid , they have most likely jammed or burnt/seized into the closed position .

I have a 2004 500 polaris scrambler and starter wont work makes no click or any sound battery is good lights work with key on.

This could be a few different things, we'll start out by having you check the starter circuit. Locate the starter relay near the battery. Follow the wire from the start button on the left handlebar to the relay, then disconnect it. Connect a length of wire (jumper wire) from the battery positive terminal to the relay in place of the disconnected start switch wire. The starter should crank the engine. Other things to check are Battery voltage could be low ( lights and everything can still work) engin kill switch is off or defective, starter solonoid faulty, starter switch not connecting,Ignition switch defective, or the easiest fix a blown fuse. Hopefully this helped.
