How do I send an external incoming call to an internal voice mail box instead of ringing the internal extension? When an external call comes in and the person they want doesn't want to answer, how can I just send it to the voice mail without having to tell my co-worker (the person on the internal line) to just not pick up the next time it rings (since I only know to go back to the incoming call that is on hold and transfer it through and have my co-worker ignore the ringing)?
Use feature 986 (transfer to VM) then enter in the co-workers extension number. That will bypass the extension and send the caller directly to his voicemail.

Try going in to you setting and look through them you may have put the call divert to voice mail on . if you have you can unclick it and take it off and that may sort the problem if your stuck ask you service provider to talk you through the steps
You need to know what extension is causing the forward directly to voice mail. Chances are that this extension has ringing lines programmed to it and the forward on busy is to voice mail. ANY PHONE THAT HAS RINGING LINES SHOULD NOT BE SET TO FORWARD ON BUSY. If they happen to be on the phone when a call comes in it will go straight to their personal mailbox.
if you diverted to voice mail send #21# to deactive all diverts
if your answering machine is on turn it off
setting > application setings > call > all calls > answering machine > activation > off

When you say voice mail, do you mean your personal vmail box or the AutoAttendant? If so you'll need to login to the 998 mailbox and modify the "Custom Service" prompts (menu# 5-3). NOw as far as the ringing goes, you might try doing an extension data clear procedure by doing Intercom -> *790 (I think it's Intercom 7900 on the older systems). if you have voice mail, you can set the number of rings before forwarding to voice mail in the administrative options of the voice mail menu itself. Call your voicemail and listen for administrative options. Follow the prompts.
