Standard Horizon QUEST+ GX1256S stuck in Scan mode

Shortly after turning my Standard Horizon QUEST+ GX1256S radio on, it goes into what seems like an endless scan mode. channels just flying by, won't stop. Have tapped the scan button on the radio, no change. Only when I tap the TX button on the handheld does it stop scanning for a 10 seconds, then goes back to scan mode.

I have a GX1255S (black) that has a blown voice chip. Everything else works fine. Sounds like you might have a stuck up or down button on top of your mic. If you would like me to send the whole radio to you, I will. You can reimburse me for shipping and a few bucks for my troubles if it works for you to switch the mic or put some of your guts into this radio. Just a thought. I was planning on taking it to the electronic recycling event in April. [email protected]

Standard Horizon vhf stuck at screen message "EE-PROM initializing"

It sounds as if the radio needs to be reprogrammed. It could also be a cold solder joint causing the problem but my guess is the radio needs to be reprogrammed. If you purchased this used, it is very likely that the frequencies were removed prior to the sale. OR, the EEPROM was removed to make surre that the frequencies were removed. It's typical practice for radio shops to do this to prevent unauthorized use on radio frequencies.

It sayes busy all the time standard horizon hx280s vhf

It sounds like you have CTCSS squelch activated and that the manual quelch control is fully open. Try adjusting the manual squelch. My quess is that the "BUSY" indication drops, and you will then be able to scan, etc.

TXT not working

This can be a sign of a battery problem. Check your battery to see that it is fresh and fully charged. Swap batteries with another known good unit to see if the problem goes away. If so, you know you have a battery issue.

Best regards.

The GX1255S flex contact end has been damage and has cut.... can i strip the covered line of the flex? is there no damage be made for the radio....

The ideal way is to replace the flex wire to insure decent operation, trying to repair it will probably land you into trouble with the radio.

Some how I seem to have locked up my Matrix GX3000S. Regardless of which button I press it simply beeps once. I cannot change channels - nothing. Can you help? Thanks. Jim McMillan Boutiliers...

Howdy Jim,

For some reason it appears that your radios Firmware has been corrupted The only thing you can do is to send the Radio to the factory. Include a Note explaining the problem with your radio, Your Name and Address and a copy of proof of purchase.

My GX1255S started not coming over any of the three speakers recently. Normally, I have it wired to a bridge speaker and an external speaker in the cabin. One day, it would not make any noise. It turns on,...

Did your speaker wire detach somehow? You could have blown the voice chip. Do you have any transmit or receive at all? You may have blown the final transistors in it as well. Check the antenna and make sure your SWR is 1-1:5 and no higher than 2. Good luck.

12V power gets to the radio but the radio does not function.

Open circuit on the PC board, open resistor on the board, fuse or possible bad on / off switch.
