if you contact whirlpool they might help but the bearings that help that stainless steel drum spin smoothly are gone and because its bounced around a bit it shredded the plastic tank its about $400 for the parts to do this job and every single part comes off and back on it takes experienced guys that do them every day about 2 hours of struggle and pain to do it. i would highly reccomend a new machine in this case.not worth it

You have a broken spindle on the inner tub. Call a technician to give you an estimate on this repair. Last time I checked the parts are about 400 dollars and it is a complete tear down of the machine so don't be suprised at the labor cost. You need to also quit using or it is going to just raise the repair costs.

i just had my washer do this to me last weekend. In the final spin out it made a loud noise and i noticed that the plastic between the metal tub and the outer plastic tub was rubbing away.I'm going to tear into it my self being that its out of warranty. Mine is about 6 years old too.

Try looking at the solution for loud noise during spin with gray water in drain. This also sounds like the bearings on the shaft supporting the stainless steel drum, in the aft half of the outer drum.
