Hook this up to an external monitor and see if you get video. The key combination to activate the external port, normal key that is, [FN]+F4. You may find that you have accidentally hit that combination and turned your monitor off. There are usually 3 positions for the monitor. Monitor and External, Monitor only, and External only so you may have to push the combination a few times. If the external monitor works your problem is your LCD and your best best is to take it to a shop and find out exactly which part is bad unless your familiar with how to open up the laptop and replace parts. If the External monitor does not activate, your only choice is to take it in or replace it. The video card on the motherboard has gone out if the External monitor doesn't come on.

SOURCE: Noisy Fan in my Dell Inspiron 9300 Laptop
Laptops do not have a fan on the power supply like a desktop does. I suggest you open your laptop and remove the fan, then blow it out as Bob suggested. As Lou also pointed out they can be tricky to get apart so use caution. You could be dealing with a dozen or more tiny screws but once you have the bottom off removing the fan is only a couple more screws and unplugging it. Be sure when you use the canned air you shake first, then spray once AWAY FROM THE PC to clear any liquid from the nozzle, then spray in short blasts to clean the components.
