Screen goes blank after booting with WinXP SP2 CD.
Trying to install WinXP SP2, though PC is already installed with Win XP SP2 and Fedora12. I have set the first boot device priority as DVD ROM.
Once I boot with Win XP SP2 CD, screen goes blank and monitor goes into standby mode within a few seconds. But, I am able to boot successfully with Fedora12. I have tried booting with 2 other copies of WinXP SP2 and also tried hitting "Enter and other keys" while booting, still no go.
Please provide the required solution.

Press the ESC button during bootup, change your primary boot device to CD. reboot with windows CD in drive, wait until files have finished loading. Select partion you wish to use, delete section, confirm and select this section to format. After format PC will reboot and start to install windows as normal. (some PCs use the delete button instaed of the ESC) Good luck, regards

go to this link http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=24 download winxp sp3 exe follow instructions disregard for IT professionals and developers this is the download you need after installing goto windows update and download and install updates
when you boot from xp installation cd it should start but if as you say nothing is happening there may be a problem with the cd or the drive. If you're sure it works properly you can always install your existing hard drive (the one with win 7) in another computer and format it then replace it and try again. When you format it you will wipe everything and it will be blank.
keep the laptop, hope it got a working cd-rom/dvd-drive !(if not, take-out /replace the harddisk) -win xp has to be removed from harddisk, the hd must be formatted so you got a blank hd to set up your new system
you'll need : - antoher PC with internet connection and cd/dvd-burner - a win98 installation cd or bootable savecopy of it, - a new win-xp install cd plus cd-key - a program called PC Wizard(download) and a bit of time...(one night or two:-)
follow instructions:
if you can enter bios (press F1 or F2 or Del) during booting), youre lucky...
enter bios while booting, in the menu look for boot otions or devices, change order of boot devices, so that cd/dvd-drive is 1st, then save and exit (F10) insert win98-CD, boot from cd, try to setup win98, you'll be asked to erase/ format all data/installations/partitions on the harddisk (drive c:,probably), do so, format the drive using the FAT32-file system, then end installation without fully setting up win 98. now you should have a blank disk witout any operation system on it.
now put in win xp cd, go through the whole installation process install and run pc wizard(it'll tell you all hardware devices of the laptop) get the proper drivers for the notebook for win-xp from the net(google might be helpful) install them. happy computing!
if all this did not work, remove the harddisk,(you'll have to unscrew a lot of the laptop) replace it by a new s-ata ide-drive()and.. erh.. come again then, this is a long process as well
This is resolved by installing Intel Storage Manager drivers through "F6" option on XP Setup. YOU MUST HAVE AN EXTERNAL FLOPPY DISK (A Drive)...as the Portege doesn't come with one...and XP does not support USB or CD ROM for this particular function.
boot to win98 operating system. Insert the XP operating CD. IT will automatically open a window asking you to select Install winXP prof. It will ask for new installation and Upgrade (recommended)
select upgrade and select next and follow the instructions. it will restart and ask you select the os.
select xp in blue screen. install the OS other than C Drive.
please don't ever install in c drive.. do with caution.
Try and do a XP repair: Boot the PC with a Win XP cd.
When you boot with the Win XP install CD-ROM, it loads a minimal operating system, similar to DOS, but compatible with Win XP. At the first screen you select install Win XP (not Recovery Console) and at the next screen it will find that you already have Win XP and offer to attempt a repair. This repair should not touch your applications, it just reinstalls the Windows files. This is great because when it works you don't need to reinstall all your software. If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it. Thanks, Joe
HELLO I AM RAVICHANDRAN FROM iRELAND, I BOUGHT THE EEE PC 900 SERIES WINXP, I GB RAM CELERON 900 PROCESSOR. NOW WIDOWS XP IS CORRPTED, WHAT CAN I DO . I HAVE A USB DVD DRIVE. HOW IS BOOT THE BOOTABLE CD. PLEASE DETAILY EXPLAIN ME STEP BY STEP
There's nothing like the Linux MBR File. The option to boot to multiple operating systems is controlled by a software called as the "Boot-Loader". Windows XP and Linux both have their versions of boot-loaders. The Bootloader that Windows XP uses is called the NTLDR, whereas Linux provides many bootloaders (prominent among them being "Grub" and "LILO").
>but Linux is shown in the manage option from the My Computer in Win XP 2..... That is the control section of NTLDR. So from what I understand you shouldn't have a problem selecting the operating systems.
If you want the Linux bootloader taking control of the boot process, you can always install it. All you need is a Linux CD and then run the setup for "Grub" or "LILO".
Information about installing Grub or LILO can be found easily on the internet.
I know this problem,
The HDD is a SATA disk, win XP setup cannot identify a SATA controller on it's own
you need to load the driver (from a disk) so you may need to download it first.
I think this is the correct link
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-51521-1&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3369431&os=228&lang=en
extract the files and burn to a CD or Floppy then run win XP setup by booting from CD
you should see in the begining of win XP setup from CD it prompt you to press (I think) F2 to add RAID or SCSI Controllers, (this prompt is at the bottom of the screen)
Then follow the propmts to load from the disk you made earlier. you should be able to select the controller from a list. (short list)
you should then be able to continue and hopefully Win XP setup should now be able to see your HDD and give you choices about which partition (as per normal)
you want to remove all partitions before installing winXP (you can then make whatever partitions you wish)
Hope this helps
