Hi. Easy! Open the front cover and you will see two stickers with red borders in front of you. About 10mm above them is the sensor - dust it with a cotton bud or tissue.
Simples!
I have the same problem and cleaned the sensor but the message won't go away. Any other advice?
The Sensor is really just a small red light just above those stickers. Dusted it with a cotton swab and it works like a Champ! Of course I DID vacuum out and clean the rest of the printer too.......probably needed it :-)
It worked, at least for now!!! Thanks! I tried calling Dell support, got India!, then they wanted $169.99 for a year of support before they would try to help me!

please solve this problem
Wow the solution did work! Thanks.
Cleaning sensor with a Q-Tip did the trick--thanks for the good advice! Actually I had to slightly moisten the Q-Tip to get all the dust. I also needed to turn the printer off and back on to reset it after cleaning.
I am not seeing where the sensor is. Can someone help?
Thanks!

I've included a link below to the manual for your printer. Please follow the instructions listed under "Cleaning the Automatic Density Control (CTD) Sensor".

My printer is not new, but I just replaced the PHD unit and received the same error. To fix it I had to clean the CTD sensor.
This link explains how to do that:
