Hi,

Go into menu and try to format memory card. Most cameras can just use card right from package without format.Formatting will delete all pics if any available. This is the only solution for your problem. This is the procedure,In playback mode on the camera (green arrow on selector switch - or middle option if the legend has worn off) press menu/ok -> select format -> menu/ok ->menu/ok to confirm
Any pictures on the card will be lost.
Thank you !!

I have a Roland vs 840 ex it has had a c.f. drive installed the machine seems to work perfect except when I set up and get ready to record and depress play or rec it says no disk. It has a 4gb c.f. card.I...

Try to initialise (format) it in your computer. Use an external card reader. I think you should use FAT 16 or FAT 32. But once the Roland sees the card, do an initialise there.
It could be the Roland can;t work with memory cards above 2 Gbyte, for that try to make a 1 Gbyte partition in your computer and again try if it works.

How to initialized this card with out losing my pictures.

Not sure what you mean here. Have you already initialised the card and lost photos or do you want to initialise it without losing pictures already on it?
If it's the first part you need to use some recovery software to get your pictures back.
If its the second - you can't. Initialising a card will wipe the photos - and then you are back at 1 and will have to use some recovery software.
The only way you can do it is to copy all the photos off the card first - then it doesn'r matter.
Alternatively - buy another card.

How do you initialise a memory card without losing the photos

You can't. Initializing (formatting) your memory card will erase the card. But formatting the card with your camera is a necessary step to either rejuvenate the card, or minimize later file error problems that will crop up if you don't do such. Backup/download the photos that are on the card to your computer before initializing.

Download any pics from the card using a card reader if necessary. Then, go into the menu and find "format" or "Initialize" and follow the on-screen instructions.

Memory card not initialising

Same answer I just gave to someone else. The first thing to do is to try to copy any data that is already on the card before you put it back into the camera and initialize it! Otherwise you will lose every photo on the card!

Once you are sure that you have copies of the photos, or that there is nothing in there that you can recover, put it back into the camera, go into the camera's menu, and select format or initialize, and let it do its thing.

Another solution would be to put that card aside in case you can later recover the images from it, and buy a new card to use in the camera. This holiday season you can get a one or two gig card for nearly nothing!
