Before trying to fix the iTunes error with some methods, you need to be sure you have the newest version of iTunes on the computer. Sometimes just updating to the newest version of iTunes is enough to resolve all syncing problems, particularly if the desktop software hasn't been updated in a while. You can always download the newest version of iTunes directly from Apple. After updating to the newest version of iTunes, if you find that your iPhone still won't sync with iTunes, you can follow the tips below to fix the error.
1. You can simply quit out of iTunes, then relaunch the app, and try syncing again. Sometimes this is enough to get your iTunes working again.
2. If syncing fails, the Sync button is greyed out and not available at all, or if you try to sync and nothing transfers over to the iPhone, iPod, or iPad, you may simply need to authorize the computer with iTunes.
3. You can also try restarting your phone by holding down the home button and power button.
4. Sometimes just restarting a Mac or PC is enough to resolve the problem and get things syncing again.
5. Typically use Wi-Fi Syncing? Try using a USB cable instead. Usually use a USB cable? Try using Wi-Fi syncing instead to see if that works.
6. If you find wireless sync to suddenly stop working, you typically just have to toggle the feature on and off again to get it functioning again.
7. Sometimes USB ports go bad, and though it's pretty rare it's very easy to rule out. All you need to do is switch the USB cable from one port to another and see if it works.
8. Reset and restore the iPhone. This should be your last option. You will lose all the data on your device. You will be resetting your phone to factory settings and start as if its a new phone. Only advantage is that you have iCloud backup.

SOURCE: OS 10.4.11 Won't Sync Calendars w/iPhone 3G

Make sure that in the sync settings you don't have Outlook turned on or something. If that is on, and you don't actually have anything to sync in outlook (or don't even have it), then this can result in it sitting for a long time, if not forever. You might also try to check and make sure that a dialog didnt pop up and somehow get minimized to the dock or something as well. I had a similar issue with my ipod touch and all it ended up being was a stupid check box under the calendars sync settings.

I just had this problem and it turned out to be... It didn't like my iPod cable. Switched to the iPhone cable and it worked.
Seems to be an iPhone 2.0 prob, or 3g prob, since I was using the iPod cable to sync my old iPhone just fine.

Where did you purchase your phone? however, you first need to update itunes to 8.0.2, that might solve your problem. Unless you have an unlocked phone then restoring your phone is useless because when you restore an iphone with itunes in the US without an att sim card it will actually lock the phone, but I do not think that is your issue. the two things you are seeing the connect to itunes and the emergency call system means that your phone is not properly activated. which is done by connecting it to itunes.

Thank you for your inquiry regarding your iPhone 3G Farid.

The issue with your iPhone 3G going to the iTunes with USB screen mode, is an indication that the upgrade you attempted to perform somehow removed the previous iOS (iPhone Operating System) you were using prior to the upgrade you were attempting achieve.

As a result, you are correct. Because you are connecting your iPhone 3G to another computer, you would not be able to sync with the other computer's iTunes library, without risk of losing all of your media on the iPhone 3G.

To resolve this issue, you would need to attempt to perform a restore back to the factory settings on the computer that contains the iTunes library you have original synced your iPhone 3G with.

This process will wipe the data from your iPhone 3G, yes, but if you have previously synced your iPhone 3G with that iTunes library on the computer in the past, that means the iTunes library will have some previous back ups from those past syncs you have performed with your iTunes library.

If that is the case, then when you perform the factory restore Farid, you will then need to follow up and perform a restore from your most current back up process in iTunes, so you can restore your iPhone 3G back to its most current settings and data, contacts, and pictures.

For a support page reference on how to perform a factory restore and a restore from a previous back up her is a link I would like to provide you for review:

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414

You can also use a software solution if you do want to safely transfer your data from your iPhone 3G to another computer with another iTunes library on another computer if you so choose.

One of the better software titles I recommend is called: Media Widget iPod Transfer Software

This is a great software solution for any iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad product.

Let me know if this helps. If you have more questions regarding this issue or what I have provided,, please free to reply back to this post.

How do i download everything on my iphone 3g onto my iphone 4 by using itunes

Plug in your iPhone 3g, go into iTunes and sync it with iTunes. Then right click where it says for examples Alex's iPhone and back up your iPhone 3G. Once you're done, plug in your iPhone 4 and set it should give you a choice of either setting it up as a new phone or syncing with last back up. If that does not come up, just plug in your iPhone 4 and sync everything accordingly. Hope that helps.

How to solve if my iphone 3G cannot be on, it stuck at the apple screen?

  • The quickest way to fix your iPhone 3G is to sync it to a different computer. When you do this the computer will recognize it as a new device and install the software on it like it's never been used before, that said everything you have on it is gone. It may take a while so be patient.
  • 2 If step one is successful you can sync it to your computer. It will recognize that it is synced with another computer and ask you if you want to sync it to this one; go ahead and do it. This may take a while too because you will install the applications, songs, data, etc. you had on it before.

WARNING! DO NOT DISCONNECT YOUR IPHONE 3G WHILE SYNC IS IN PROGRESS OR ELSE YOU WILL BE STUCK IN RESTORE MODE AGAIN!
  • 3 If steps 1 and 2 did not work or you do not have another computer to sync it with the following steps will help.
  • 4 Backup your music, videos, and applications. Typically it would be the iTunes folder in the My Music folder. This is a precautionary step to the following steps to come, your music should be unaffected but stranger things have happened.
  • 5 Uninstall iTunes, Quicktime, and other Apple component software from your computer. Follow the steps listed on the Apple Support page, "Removing iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP" the link is available in the resources section. Restart your computer when done.
  • 6 To be sure everything is uninstalled completely run the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. This program removes remnants of uninstalled programs from your registry and deletes files that the uninstall fail to catch. You can download and read more about this program from the Microsoft Help and Support Page, "Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility" the link is available in the resources section. Restart your computer.
  • 7 If you have a registry cleanup utility like Registry Mechanic or CCleaner run the program and restart your computer. It is sad to say but the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility may not catch everything so having a secondary cleaner could be essential.
  • 8 Install the latest version of iTunes. Currently iTunes 8 is the latest, it could change tomorrow so download it from Apple.com. Restart your computer.
  • 9 Open iTunes and connect your iPhone 3G. It may take a while for it to recognize the phone, be patient. Once iTunes recognizes your phone it will prompt you to download the latest iPhone software, the current version is 2.1. Follow the installation instructions in the Apple iPhone - Software Update page, the link is available in the resources section.

WARNING! DO NOT DISCONNECT YOUR IPHONE 3G WHILE SYNC IS IN PROGRESS OR ELSE YOU WILL BE STUCK IN RESTORE MODE AGAIN!
  • 10 Hopefully these steps helped you recover your iPhone 3G. It is possible that even after a successful recovery your phone may revert back to being stuck. In my experience I was able to save my iPhone 3G from restore mode but when I downloaded the software update it got stuck again, luckily steps 1 and 2 fixed it.
