There are companies who will replace the screen for about the same price as a brand new Kindle BASIC. personally I would suggest:
- buy a new Kindle BASIC for 59gbp;
or
- download any of the FREE kindle apps and just finish your library reads for free whilst you look around for a replacement.
If you want a TABLET rather than a eReader remember ANY tablet will download the free Kindle app so you can read your books on a Fire or a ASUS or a NEXUS or a iPad or anything really :)
That is a pretty inexpensive tablet. The screen is broken and the machine isn't worth repairing. The screen will cost far more than a new comparable tablet, sorry for the bad news.
So sorry to hear/read about this challenge you are having.
You've provided a few details to help you out; so also is it that you've probably left a few otter details out too.
First, the android logo which appears... is it lying on its back with its tummy open and a 'no command' writing also displayed?
Or is it simply the android logo ONLY.
In any case, once you do the hard reset and the android logo re-appears, try and pushing either the volume up or volume down button.
Next, check and see if it now displays the various command options on the screen.
Otherwise, when the android logo reappears, you can try press one of the following 'home button' or 'back button' or 'opened tabs button' and see if the reset menu/command options become displayed.
Try to hold the slide key for 15 sec. It will reboot your kindle. If black patch is not gone even after that, It's a hw issue. Screen might require to be changed. If it's in warranty Amazon will do it free. That's what i have heard.
