There are three fans: 1)Cooling fan(on the optical block)part# 1-787-057-11 2)Ballast fan part# 1-787-081-11 3)Upper optics fan part# 1-787-460-11 Also make sure you don't have a noisey iris motor in the optical block (verify by adjusting the iris settings in the menu and see if the noise level changes)

I have the KDF 42WE655 with the same blue dot issue and Sony upgraded me to the KDL 46V4100 for $375! I jumped on the opportunity.

I fixed my problem by removing the lamp and vacuuming the hell out of the hole where the lamp lives and also getting all of the dust out of the rear ventilation grids with my vacuum. I put the old lamp back in and what do you know the TV has worked perfectly ever since. My lamp was over a year old and did not show any signs of hazing on the lens that you might see on a lamp that has a ton of hours on it. I just thought I would try to put it back in before I spent a couple of hundred bucks on a new lamp.
TA DA problem fixed.

The blue dots are cause by a defective optical light engine. This parts is quite expensive.
