I have webroot anti-virus and it consistently is being turned off after I get on the internet. Is it likely malware or a virus causing this? Actually, it is the firewall that is being turned off.

Hello install this program from here:

http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/

Here is a free version that works great.
This is also the best free malware remover available !!!!!!

Install also a better free anti virus program like this:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/security-essentials-download

Please uninstall the old antivirus program, before you install
Microsoft Security Essentials.
Mse it`s not useing so much of the pc`s memory to operate.

Your windows version must be valid, to use the mse program.

Good luck

Chances are it's a virus or malware. Download an anti-virus program to a disk or to a flash drive. Run it and see if you can find a virus. Here's a link to one of the best anti-virus progams. (In my opinion)

Hope you solve the problem. You might also try Malwarebytes

Won't scan after 30 to 45 minutes. The computer will not complete the scan for virus sweep;the computer freezes.

If you can, I would download MalwareBytes (It's free) update it first, then run it. If it finds problems (usually indicated in red) remove the problems. Reboot and then try your Webroot again. Note that any Anti-Virus program will not work well unless it is regularly updated. this is because new viruses / malware come out with great frequency.

Webroot updates never happen Webroot updates are turned on but nothing happens when I try and manually or auto update

Try to access an anti virus online scanner then try to access windows update if you are unable to access these sites you have Win32.Worm.Downadup.Gen. It prevents any access to any anti virus software and windows updates it also turns off any installed anti virus updates. Removal is actually really simple just go here

Can't check for updates for Anti Virus with Spy Sweeper - get DNS error - cannot locate server, and error code disp0201. I also re-directed to another web page when I try to update definitions or look for...

I would suspect your computer has a virus or has spyware or malware that is causing this. Restart your computer in Safe Mode and run Webroot and your other security software. If they find nothing then restart your computer and then go online and run this free scan. http://us.trendmicro.com/us/housecall/

Virus problem cannot be turned on. It is always off

Well something must have caused you to install a virus program. I"m guessing you already have a virus. Many virus's can disable virus software. You should try an online scan like Microsoft's http://www.microsoft.com/protect/products/computer/safetyscanner.mspx

If it finds a virus you can download repairs for just that virus from places like www.symantec.com Once you get the virus out your software may work.
Personally I can't image why you would pay for the program you bought. Good things on the internet don't cost money. Go download and install Spybot S&D. It's great for spyware and malware because it puts a list of the bad places in your restricted site zones so there's no way you get spybots and malware from them. Then go download and install anti-virus software from http://www.avg.com
