Black pictures I used my Rebel XTI last night, no problem. Downloaded the pictures, no problem. Went to shoot outside this evening....black on the LCD screen, but I could backspace and see the pics I took last night that I had not deleted. The picture counter came up fine on the black photos. Have you havd any luck with finding what what wrong>

I am not sure where to post the solution to my problem, so I'll do it this way.
The mirror had gotten jammed somehow and was not moving so it blocked the lens from receiving any exposure. I sent the camera to a recommended store in Austin, and they were able to unjam the mirror. All is well again!

Check your settings - could be if very black night, and you set it to 100 iso film speed, and maybe you are on say 1/1000 of sec at maybe f16, then that's ok. You would maybe need an explosion in an oil refinery to capture much.

However, you perhaps could try this:

1 change the battery for fresh one, and see if it helps - sometimes, the shutter won't really shut if battery power is very low

2. change the mode setting to auto, and see if the flash pops up and takes a pix - then if the pix is good, the camera is still working

3. Reset the camera to the factory defaults, by:

  • Firstly press the 'menu' button, then the up button above the 'OK' as many times as needed, until you see the top folders are highlighted.

  • Press the right button near the 'OK' until you see the last folder highlighted. You will know this is highlighted when you see the first menu option that says 'Language'. The 3rd one down from that says 'Clear Settings'.

  • Press the down button under the 'OK' until 'Clear Settings' is highlighted, then press the 'OK' button.

  • Scroll up to your choice and press 'OK' to reset your Canon 400D back to default factory settings.
If that fails, back to Canon! - good luck

How can i take pictures with the lcd on like other diital cameras do ?

Your XTi doesn't have the feature called "live view" which allows shooting with the LCD. In short, you can't do it. If this answers your question, please rate the help favorably. Thanks

Have canon rebel xti digital 400d--how do i see live image prior to shooting on lcd monitor

This Canon model 400D or XTi does not have Live view capability in the LCD screen, so you cannot do it.

You have to use the view finder to select the image that you want to capture with it.

If you need a Canon DSLR camera with Live View capability, you need to try other different model such as the T1i or XSi.

Best regards,

Help! Cracked LCD display on Canon Rebel xti

Had the same problem myself, I purchased a new lcd from ebay (user name: ProphotoSD). He has tons of factory LCD's, cost around 90$. Please note that if you cracked the clear cover above the lcd that is a separate piece however it wont effect the lcd working (this piece is also replaceable). Then I found a simple tutorial for disassembling the camera body on google. Took me like 25 min, very simple job, just need a very small phillips head screw driver. Hope this helps!

Black LCD screen/ not 'seeing' picture. Canon EOS 400D camera

Hi

The Digital Rebel XTi doesn't have 'live view' mode, you can't see what you're taking a picture of before you take the picture.

Lcd screen stays on and cannot see subject

"Live View", where you can see and compose your picture on the LCD, was not available on any digital SLR before 2007 (the Rebel XTi came out in late 2006). So you need to compose your picture using the optical viewfinder, take your picture, and the picture shows up on the LCD after you've taken it.

But it's still faster than having to wait until the film is developed. :-)

Date on pictures taken and movie shooting on canon eos 400d

The EOS Digital Rebel, EOS Digital Rebel XT and EOS Digital Rebel XTi do not support stamping the date and time on the image.

It is not possible to record the date and time as part of the image at the time the picture is taken. However, the date and time is captured in the EXIF information of the image at the point of capture. It is possible to print the image with the date and time via printing software. Please see the documentation for the software package that you use for printing images for the proper procedure.

Canon eos digital canon rebel xti - LCD won't work when shooting

Most DSLR cameras (like your Canon) don't have a live view - in other words, you can't "see" the image before you capture it. You must use the viewfinder.
