I have repaired two different LRM-519 that both had the same problem. The repair was a simple replacement of two capacitors on of the power supply board of each unit. You can search the web for repair instructions, or even search youtube for a video of the repair.

If you have the same problem I had then when you turn on your recorder it will only display the Hello message on the front of the unit (perhaps very dim) and the blue light on the power button will come on. Your next step is to open the device (about 7 screws) and slide the top off, then examine the tops of the capacitors on the power supply, if the tops of one or more are bulging up then this is a good candidate for attempting this repair.

For parts I found some on ebay and searching the web. If you don't want to do the repair yourself I have also seen people offer the power supply repair on ebay.

Excellent suggestion, looking for that bulging capacitor.

My LG VHS/DVD went dark after some months of intermittent power-up problems. The cap with the bulge was the one right next to the ventilator fan, suggesting it may have gotten too hot over the years. Lucky break number two: the cap value was right on the component, so finding a replacement was easy.

Switched it out with a new one (but slightly bigger with higher voltage rating) and the machine is back in service. Hope to get a couple more years out of it before giving up my tapes.

Lg lrm-519 went into demo mode. Can't get it back

follow directions from the owners manual. while unit is powered up, unplug power cord from back of unit - wait 5-seconds. Depress the DVD open/close button while re-plugging the power supply cord to the unit. LG splash appears onscreen and unit goes into re-set. you do not loose any of you programing or settings.

LG LRM-519 Not responding to anythiing

I had a LRM-519 that would not get past a very dimly lit "hello" on the LED screen. I called tech support and was advised to make sure no disk was in the unit and turn off the power from the unit (not the remote) and unplug it from the wall outlet. While unplugged, hold down the power button for 30 seconds then plug it back in. This didn't work the first time, but after a few tries it worked for me. My unit hadn't worked for nearly 3 months prior to this. Good luck.

2 units have died. Possible power supply problem

According to LG support, it would have cost $69 for labor plus parts to repair the unit. The main board/power board is $40.
