I have repaired two different LRM-519 that both had the same problem. The repair was a simple replacement of two capacitors on of the power supply board of each unit. You can search the web for repair instructions, or even search youtube for a video of the repair.
If you have the same problem I had then when you turn on your recorder it will only display the Hello message on the front of the unit (perhaps very dim) and the blue light on the power button will come on. Your next step is to open the device (about 7 screws) and slide the top off, then examine the tops of the capacitors on the power supply, if the tops of one or more are bulging up then this is a good candidate for attempting this repair.
For parts I found some on ebay and searching the web. If you don't want to do the repair yourself I have also seen people offer the power supply repair on ebay.
Excellent suggestion, looking for that bulging capacitor.
My LG VHS/DVD went dark after some months of intermittent power-up problems. The cap with the bulge was the one right next to the ventilator fan, suggesting it may have gotten too hot over the years. Lucky break number two: the cap value was right on the component, so finding a replacement was easy.
Switched it out with a new one (but slightly bigger with higher voltage rating) and the machine is back in service. Hope to get a couple more years out of it before giving up my tapes.
