I thought my remote needed the batteries changed because the volume down button was not functioning, so I changed the batteries to new ones and tried it again, same thing, I have had problems with remotes before so I thought I would open the remote and check where the bottom of the buttons meet the connectors on the circuit board, they looked clean, then the **** happened, I saw where a button was supposed to go but was left out for my particular model, I pressed it to see what it done, it took me to another screen which showed the model number and manufacturer, a few second later it started a color pattern loop where the whole screen flashes colors like on this video, the colors may not look right in the video, if they dont the colors are as follows:
Red to a few seconds, Green for a few seconds, Blue for a few seconds, white for a few seconds, Black for a few seconds, a white/black gradient for a few seconds and then another white/black gradient for a few seconds before cycling through it all again in a loop, I tried using the usb port to reinstall firmware to no avail.. Anyone know what I can do to fix it? It does has a service terminal (USB flash drive port)
This video shows it rotating through the colors

Did you find a solution, I have the same problem with my Emerson TV. Same color pattern loop. Tech support was no help and TV is just 3 months out of warranty.
Yes, what I did was buy a cheap universal remote (I also have a vizio remote that works too), one that has a lot of buttons including up, down, left and right arrow keys (I believe hitting the left arrow key is what took it back out to the diagnostic menu where you can press power to exit it), I know it sounds crazy but It works and saved me alot of money rather than getting a new one or having it repaired.. Here are the codes and remotes that work with the TV..
RCA RCU600M not sure what the code was.. (if I can get it, i'll tell you)
Vizio xru9m: TV code for LC320EMX is 1172

Press the up button on the factory remote then release then press the down button. then just hit the power button to get out of the menu. worked for my EMERSON lc320emxf.

I actually fixed it sometime back, I bought a RCA universal remote that had arrow keys, after programming it to the TV I hit all the buttons until it came out of the loop, it was the left arrow key.. I dont know why the arrow keys on the emerson remote didn't do it.. And to dlustberg01 yeah support wants you to send it back and get it "repaired", who know how much they would charge... But all is good now.
